i230 Tome weapons!! So long relic grind...

I'm not going to get one of the new weapons I rather spent my tomes for the armor. Pretty sure the relic will get an upgrade in 3.25 though and if not I won't care either still gonna use it.

When I look back how they handled the relic in 2.xx I'm not to worried about my relic becoming completely useless right now

The next relic stages will likely upgrade to i240, and the Alexander Savage raid weapons will be i245. That's essentially what Yoshi told us to expect in that recent letter when he talked about the Diadem, Savage participation, etc.

But yes, the relic weapons are investments, and upgrading them to i230 probably won't take too long -- it's the i230 to i240 step that will separate the men from the -- well, men with less free time.

"We screwed up with gordian so bad it messed up everything and we had to purposely make all comparable content equally crap; going forward this shouldn't be the case so relic quest after the first step will also be more reasonable"


That said there was no reason for relic quest to be delayed so much to the point that the majority of the population will probably have 220-230 weapons before completing there 210 one

That's probably part of the intention, yes. The next step will be about a month from Tuesday (I think they said 5 weeks?), which will be plenty of time for folks to catch up on the 210 stage. Since the tomestone gear jumped straight to i230, I suspect we'll get that as a minimum item level for the Anima weapon in 3.25 as well. It's also possible that either the step in 3.25 or 3.3 will let us customize the stats again, too, if I had to guess.

About costumization, thats a bit dicey there, since now all gear is supposed to have materia slots, relics may not be excepmt from this, which would mean that both main and substats will now always be fixed and leave the "costumization" to the materia side...

They haven't said either way, of course, but I suspect we'll still see it. They haven't specifically said that weapons are going to have Materia slots, anyway, and since they aren't putting in crafted weapons, I imagine that weapons won't have them. It'll just be everything else that does.

Well, for one, I also do hope the costumization is there on later steps, after all, it was the most charming part of these kind of weapons.

The i230 weapons will take 3 weeks worth of tomes. Sephirot ones will take a few hours worth of effort.
i170 relic weapon can be instant jumped if you had a Zodiac. Just a little effort if you go the FATE route.
i200 can be rushed for 60% of its process and the remaining 40% isnt really difficult.
i210 can be instant if you have the money for it. (and comes along with daily roulettes)

Don't really see this relic as a "grind" :|

Also, most likely the next step of the relic will be around i240.

Just want to point out that most of your info here is incorrect.

1: I doubt a lot of the player base is going to be able to learn/clear/farm Sephirot ex with just a few hours of effort.
2: i170 relic weapon requires a Zeta, not a Zodiac to skip.
3: i210 will not be instant, even if you have money, you still need to grind out the 80 unidentifiable items that cannot be purchased with gil.
