Doesn't seem like I'm part of a small unlucky group. There are lots of stories, you know.
Naoki Yoshida:
Source: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/113554 at 1:14:22...Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Judah, being from Jenova. You and I both know this system will fail on our server. We already have a very blurred line between end game raiders wanting to help people plus crafters and gathers not wanting too help establish more players into that community.Hey everybody. Your obscure sample size of the entire playerbase clearly dictates that this system will fail before it even launches. Thank you for your due diligence in discovering how....oh wait.
Stop nitpicking a system that you can't even participate in that hasn't even launched yet. It's ridiculous. That's like my daughter pointing at a sandwich and saying it's bad because it has ham on it. She hasn't tried it, what the hell does she know.
*Edit: Sophitia can participate.*
This system which is supposed to help players learn from other established vet players has so many glaring holes it's not hard pick it apart. Look at our server again for example we have Mint, probably one of the top players on our server, this system blocks Mint (temporarily) from being a mentor, but random guy over there in idyllshire who isn't half as skilled as Mint, Fate grinded their DPS and Healer class to 60 is the one teaching our new bloods.
How does this person have more knowledge as a player verse Mint who has cleared everything in this game and even has some server first clears under their belt.

Sorry, I forgot to mention I wasn't sending information from the future in my post.
Making a estimation based on knowledge of experience with many, many DF runs of random players and their temperament toward accepting advice and so on, as well as the failure of the previous teaching activity, Guildhests, to get anything in the noggin of most players, that, and the general attitude toward improvement or even standards of an individual in a team game... is just that, an estimation, a theory, etc.
You know, like before a movie or game in a series comes out, you can theorize what to expect based on previous and current evidence. Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping it does good, but I really ain't expecting much, or anything from it... but hey, at least when two individual people meet in Mentor that are of a mind to utilize that system properly, they will get a lot from it I'm sure.
Edit: What do you mean I can participate... ?

I agree to this. For now we don't know how it works yet but I can always help anyone out anytime even without the mentor system. I guess it's fine if it's simply a convenient channel for veteran players to sincerely help out/communicate with new players. Just that I hope it better don't give out any goodies just for being a mentor, less we see jerks abusing newbies just so they can get their shinies.

Well, Mirta, let us hope that the SCH doesn't have enough commendations to be a mentor.

OK since this keeps becoming a thing lets break it down shall we?
First, you won't be 'mentoring' how to do alexander ANYTHING most likely because you can only be in the mentor program (as a student) if you are under 40 hours into the game. The majority of mentoring will be more about how things work (example: how do I unlock my chocobo?) then it will be about shit like a dragoon doing optimal dps at 60.
Second, mentoring is completely optional. Stop being so upset that you don't meet the requirements for it, if you want to help people you still can WITHOUT this system. There is literally nothing that will stop you from taking a new healer/dps/tank who wants to learn how to play their class the correct way and teaching them everything you know, if you are both willing to teach and they are willing to learn that is.
Finally, and most importantly, the bad attitude about a system you don't meet requirements for that isn't even released yet will only sour the image to any new players that actually might think about joining it. You need to be calm and level headed to be a good teacher, and if it upsets people so much that they have to disparage a system because they can't use it, you probably weren't going to be a good fit for it anyway.

Because like I said, they will more than likely be answering how to unlock chocobos, how to join grand companies, how to get off of Limsa/Vlybrand because this island sucks (joking). They more than likely won't be in this persons life long enough to actually influence the way they play their class. I'm not saying bad people won't teach bad habits, but there is no reason to be upset about this. But yes I do wish the requirements were stricter, and honestly I think 40 hours of gameplay is pretty short and should probably be doubled so that you can get more worth out of the mentor system as a new player. But again, you can still take a new player under your wing and teach them yourself if you see them doing things wrong, just try your best to be polite and hope they are open to suggestions.
You're right that the system is supposed to be helping understand the basics, I've preached that all day and night. The basics cover everything from customizing the system, how to handle combat with 3 other players, map layout and how to navigate through towns, open up teleports and a myriad of other things. These are things that can be forgotten or not addressed because a player didn't take the time to fully look through certain menus or read their basic tool kit. But that's where the huge glaring hole in the wall is at. Any player can get to level 60 on all 3 classes and not know the basics because they themselves didn't exactly learn them. That's why myself and others are saying this won't work because this system is built on tyne fallacy that level 60 with 1000 instances ran and 300 commendations doesn't mean they are honestly knowledgeable of everything in the game.
