Seeing as flying in 2.0 areas is still a far away wish and not certain at all, why not make flying available in residential districts.
There are three suggestions that apply for all areas:
- Expand the area bounds
- Make something already existing accessible via flying
- Add something new that is accessible via flying only
Most of the above are because it wouldn't be that fun if the only thing we could land on would be roofs and ground, in addition to them there should be few landing spots in the area. And I stress the term "landing spots" because I've noticed that in 3.0 areas there are many places you cannot land onto even though they would look solid enough. They just weren't built that way, so I'm hoping if this suggestion ever becomes real, these places we would be able to land on too.
One important thing to note is that all residential districts have barriers that prevent us from seeing outside the area (in to nothing). I'm fairly sure that the far away objects or "areas" we see are not that finished, meaning there needs to be limits how high we could go so we won't be able to gaze outside. I think it needs to be done this way because making those areas scenery-worthy would take too much time and add unnecessary clutter to the wards.
Right, with that in mind, let's begin!
The Mist
1. Expand: Horizontally there isn't much where to expand to here but the sea: allow us to fly a bit further from the beach (so we can do this).
2. This one is obvious, if anything should be accessible it's the great bridge... wheel... thing. However I'm not quite sure how viable it would be because it's nearly as high as the rock behind it, which is supposed to block our view from the ugly nothingness.
3. As for new landing spots, neither of these (picture below) wouldn't be possible in their current state. The island is too far away and most of the little house/tower things are on top of the rock. Maybe an island closer to the shore or what I would personally love: a ship you could board (just like in Limsa or Wolves' Den).
Lavender Beds
1. Lavender Beds has a good amount of rocks as a visual shield all around, so making the fly zone is easy enough if you just expand on the water. The branches of the big tree can't be made accessible but the roots can, or more likely, the water around them. Behind the big waterfall and the docks there are "openings" on the rock wall but if you limit flying to the narrow spots it should be all good.
2. There isn't many places to convert to landing spots, maybe the rocks on the water and deciding whether it would be possible to land and walk on water because at times it's pretty shallow.
3. As for new additions, there are the thick, big trees but they lack branches and aren't good landing spots, so branches of other big trees could be made into ones or by adding big bird nests. Alternatively a cave behind or above a waterfall, similarily to Hinterlands.
The Goblet
1. Let me just start this off by saying that on good weather Goblet would be absolutely amazing to fly at! The area is vast and the rocks are tall, so expanding the flying zone would be peace of cake and it can be made pretty big too. And it would add to Goblet's attractiveness, as currently it seems to be least popular of all housing districts.
2. Just like with Mist's attraction, I think the big windmill would offer good landing spots in Goblet. There already is a deck and balcony (picture below) and some small bridges. There is also something that is assumably an airship landing and is currently unaccessible and it's not known if there are any future plans for that. And last but not least the green patches of rock (can be seen in picture above) that are all around Goblet and in the outer rocks.
3. Since Windmill would already offer high up scenery spots, maybe add a cave or a tunnel that runs below Goblet. There is already a lit tunnel, it could be similar to that but a bit larger so it would be easy to fly through, even better if the other end is hidden behind a waterfall.
