    Which server to choose

    Hi!
I'm new to the game and I don't know which server to choose so I hope to find some information to choose my right server with everyone's help.

    1. Which is the acceptable ping to play the game ? My ping to NA server around 300 - 400 ms. Is it too high ?

    2. If I must choose the JP server which only <100ms which server should I join since I can only understand English. I hope to find a server that's newbie friendly.

    Thank you!

I'm not really sure how long of a ping delay is too long, just that shorter is better, so a lot of Austrailian and New Zealand players stick with the JP servers just for their proximity. It looks like you're already on Tonberry, and that's the one I'd heard has the most English speakers of any of the JP servers.

Is your FC mainly English speakers? I'm not sure it's servers per say that are or are not "newbie friendly". That's more an issue for individual FCs and linkshells.

yah the forum don't let me login unless I have a character and the notice " not login for the last 14 days something" block me out for few days >_> . I make character on Tonberry because it's the only server that have last posted in 3 days >_> some other server have last post date back to 2015 ... ( I check the world group http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/668 ) ^_^'

For most MMOs, you need to have ping less than 200 to be effective, less than 120 to suffer "no" latency.

The ping's high but if it's stable chances are you can get used to it. I know others have, at least in PVE.

Where are you from? I wouldn't recommend an NA server if you're from AU. You'll find it has worse latency, and the world will be pretty dead during prime time for you. Tonberry is probably a good place to stay honestly.

I'm about 3 hours behind AU, and the world I'm on, Hyperion seems to have people online (read: not dead) no matter what time I get online.

Though I would also probably recommend Tonberry over any NA server unless you have reasons to join one.

I play on 250ms and it's noticeable. A much higher ping probably wouldn't be very fun.

I would definitely recommend staying with the low ping you have. Tonberry and Masamune have a decent number of English-speakers for Japanese servers, as far as I know - I play on a full Japanese server and I don't recommend it if you can't speak the language comfortably since you'll struggle with grouping later on. Once you make some friends and settle in you should be fine on your chosen server
