So, you bought season 1 of a really good television series. It ends on a cliff hanger. Are you complaining that it ended on a cliffhanger or are you going to buy the next season?

It's an MMORPG, so the story never ends until the game ends (like FFXI did now).
I get your point, but this is an evolving game, so it will be like this with every expansion D:

Best answer.
This sort of thing is everywhere, from TV shows, movies, anime, games, books, you name it. It's a marketing tool, you go "addicted" to the first product, you want more so you'll get the rest. It's business, is it a good model for the consumer? No, not really and it's getting worse, but there's not much you can do about it except, well, not buy it.
I for one don't really mind, as long as isn't extreme, if i like a world i want to be further immersed into it and most of the times have expansions/dlc set to where the main game stopped make the story feel more continuous, as opposed to some other, many times random and not so logical, bit added to it.
Coil is also, like the ARR story, an extension of the 7th umbral era story from 1.xThat's not entirely true. Coil had it's own independent story but it tied into the Main Scenario beginning with the ending credits for ARR after you clear the last story dungeon for 2.0. They've deviated from that for Heavensward because the "Story" (if you want to call it that) has been linked to the easy mode raid as opposed to the actual End Game raiding.
HW have already 1 of 2 endings
While 3.x still have no ending, 3.0 have already its ending
