So what do you farm when you hit max level?

Hi I'm brand newb player here. I'm level 44 atm. I have been playing story ever since, so I haven't been crafting or collecting anything at all. Just solid story mode.

Back to the question. So what exactly do you need to farm when you hit level 60? I use to play Diablo 3 alot and when you hit max level you farm, death breath, veil crystals and gems etc to craft better BiS items along with paragon levels etc etc. So what do I need to farm in FF14? Do you get good gear from crafting or slaying monsters? What exactly is the end game anyway? Raids? Crafting? Dungeons? How do you get good gear? If not by crafting then why are people farming x y z? what are they trying to craft that is must have in your character? Can someone list me the MUST farm items in FF14 when you hit max level. I really appreciate it.

    Enlighten me people

Dungeons, Raids, Tomestones (weekly capped currency for endgame gear), Primal fights (usually for weapons) and this nifty mode called Diadem which is sort of the lovechild of Diablo + FFXIV hunts

If you raid with skilled groups, you farm raids each week for chances at gear drops. That's the best stuff in the game. Otherwise, you join the majority of us peasants in farming dungeons for 450 tokens per week which you spend on the latest endgame gear. (Currently that gear is ilevel 200, but will be more like 230 in another week).

You'll have a little bit of trouble getting gear to qualify for endgame content at first, but with a little effort you will skip most of the ilevel brackets that we've been farming for the last several months, and jump right into ilevel 200-230 gear with little difficulty.

It's more about slowly building your gear via the weekly capped token than farming a single place over and over again. (Although the "Diadem" area mimics gear farming in other games with ilevel 210 gear, but it won't likely exceed ilevel 210 until sometime in June or July)

I am so so so confused. WHat is this weekly thing you guys are talking about?

' you farm raids each week for chances at gear drops. That's the best stuff in the game '
What is raids? So I assume you can only play 1 raid per week? ehhh? If yes then ok.

'you join the majority of us peasants in farming dungeons for 450 tokens per week '
Tokens? You get how many tokens for 1 dungeon run? How do you spend tokens? 1 token 1 gear? 1 token = 1 chest armour?

'Currently that gear is ilevel 200, but will be more like 230 in another week'
so ilevel200 is current but after next patch it will be ilevel 230? in otherwords its no point farming ilevel200 since ilevel230 will be announce next week? Or am I missing something here?

Sorry of these are noobs question, as you can see I am a noob and I want ff14 be my main game
Im sick of playing LoL and csgo, FF14 FTW!

The forum is like that, 1000 letter cap per post. Just cut anything extra from your post and then choose EDIT POST to paste the remainder of what you were going to say.

So a lot of subscription based mmos have a limit to what you can do each week, to keep people subscribed for a longer period of time. The content can be fairly easy (or not), but it is impossible to be fully geared without spending several weeks (and several subscription fees) on your character.

Once you get to level 50, you'll start to see the "tomestone" currency, which is earned from completing dungeons and trials. You spend that currency on strong gear. There are several types of tomestones, and the best kind are capped at 450 tomestones a week. You get about 40-70 of these tomestones for a single level 60 dungeon. A full set of gear can cost about 13-15 weeks of tomestones.

Additionally, you have raids, which are challenging 8-man content. If you beat a boss, you get gear from him, but only once per week.

There are several other forms of acquiring loot, such as farming certain bosses to get useful weapons, doing a weekly 24-man raid for an easy piece of loot, and the "Diadem" dungeon-like-thing where you can farm gear until your eyes melt, albeit at a low drop rate. These are mostly catch-up gearing mechanics, though.

Even numbered patches mostly focus on introducing stronger tomestone and 8-man raid gear, and odd numbered patches focus on allowing faster catch-up for new players. Since you'll likely hit level 60 during patch 3.2, you can skip past a lot of the 3.0 gear levels, and get focus on the same 3.2 gear as everyone else at level cap.

You can edit posts to get around the 1000 character limit.

Anyway, my suggestion to you is to not worry about endgame farming until you reach there. You have plenty of story to go through, and you'll naturally acquire tomestones once you get to level 50+.
You basically just learn as you progress.

"What is raids? So I assume you can only play 1 raid per week?"
^ Raids are basically something like a trial (think the fight like Ifrit story mode but its the most hardest of all current content and require 8 people with coordination). The weekly thing refers to the 2 raid loot chest that you will get when you clear that particular raid. Lets say, current endgame raid is Alexander : Gordias Savage, it has 4 tiers. You can get 2 chest containing gears in each tier per week, then it resets on Tuesdays so you can go clear it again for another 2.

Tokens? You get how many tokens for 1 dungeon run? How do you spend tokens?
^ Referring to the Allagan Tomestones of [some name here]. You can get from 10 to 100 depending on which dungeon you cleared (you get them from lv50 / lv60 dungeons). You spend them on certain gears by talking to Auriana in Mordhona (for lv50 poetics) and Hismena in Idyllshire (lv 60 law/eso)

so ilevel200 is current but after next patch it will be ilevel 230? in otherwords its no point farming ilevel200 since ilevel230 will be announce next week?
^ Still has a point regardless, you can farm them for your alternate classes.

And since you are also in Odin, feel free to add me in-game to ask more. I'm usually around in game about 9 hours from this post.

@Gunspec I see I see. So what about crafting? Why do people craft then? Why do people farm? what do they farm? and what are they for? From reading your comments, it seems the only way to get best gear is from dungs, trials and raids. So crafting is just something to do in game??

@KinnisonArc I added you but it says ur name is not valid? Can you add me?

i'M SO NOOB god help me. FYI FF14 is my first EVER MMO. Right now just playing story like a noob
