Is it wrong to pretend you new to the game on an alt?

I do it as long as I have the sprout. Not to troll obviously, I don't try and play bad, but I think it's fun.

It's only wrong if it's used to deceive people - such as asking for or accepting items and gil meant to help you get started when you already have plenty of resources already on a different character.

I've restarted several times and gone through content without saying I'd done it, normally playing as a role I hadn't played through that content with before...partly to see how people would react to seeing a "newbie" and partly just for fun. A lot of the advice I received was advice I needed. I told people that I wasn't new if they tried to stop and explain the dungeon/boss mechanics to me and I already knew them, just so that I wouldn't be wasting their time.

And as long as my characters are on the same server, I never accept gifts from people as an alt. I just transfer the Gil from one character to the next as needed via FC chest, or sell an item for a single Gil on the market board and buy it as an alt.

Back when I played WoW I'd often do this. Just a little personal survey I'd take to see how many people are respectful/disrespectful to new players (at the time roughly 75% of players are respectful, to me not a high enough number). It's all good to know.
