I don't really consider that rude. Is there more context? Or perhaps I didn't phrase/quote well originally, my response was in regards to you in addition to the post you quoted about players being asses.

I've had people get mad at me for tanking and not pulling large amounts. When I first got PLD to 60 I was happy! I only had enough to buy a bit of Law gear, said I'm still working so I can't pull the entire zone. I'd get a mixed bag..either someone who helps me and says what they think I can pull, which was more than I thought. Others who got upset and pulled for me, and we ended up having major issues. Them being so much higher iLV than me.
Honestly, I get pretty annoyed at small pulls as well. This is mostly because I am a SMN, and doing small pulls handicaps me significantly. I never say as much in party except, "Hey, can you do larger pulls please? " or "Hey, can you do larger pulls, it makes timing Aetherflow stacks easier." etc. I'd say the best comparison would be a DPS kiting a mob around a tank, the mob may die and you can go on, but it was really annoying to the tank and handicapped their ability to do their job.

I was doing a low level roulette and the healer kept stopping. Said his kid was crying so be a minute, one person said it's not their problem and tried to vote kick. I've had tanks quit on us because someone wasn't using raging strikes, or other cool downs and just went off on the poor guy. He was new and kept forgetting.
Heh those are some crazy stories.

On the flip side I've seen some real reasonable people. Exceptionally nice people who didn't mind taking the time to explain, not just to myself but to others if needed. What helped the most? Was if that person telling them what to do wasn't using the words "moron" "how hard is it to..." and the people in return try their best. Sure we didn't get through things the first try but everyone starts somewhere.
Awesome! I try to be one of those people. Granted, it's pretty demotivating when the usual happens. I provide advice and usually it goes ignored. For example, we were in AV and kept dying and I asked the tank as the healer, "Hey, can you try to avoid the AoE Bad Breath, it's giving you a lot of debuffs and making it hard to keep you alive." He said nothing and continued to eat every single bad breath and didn't use any of the fruits to remove the debuffs. Eventually he left, and an FC mate joined and we cleared without further problem. Then, of course, there are the defensive players who do not react kindly to advice.

I think it's a two way street...if you're kinda and have time to help someone out that makes it easier. On the flip side, if someone gives you advice..it's because they care about getting stuff done and want to help. I'm not saying have a Jerry Springer moment and go with sappy music and a final thought, but at the same time dont' belittle people for things and in return don't get so offended over advice.
I agree, I think it plays largely in to how you phrase things. I think this is largely why I rarely see rude players, as I tend to try and speak as kindly as I can.

Also it's fair to say I've seen people take advice in a positive way. We were doing Cutters, and the healer had just bad gear. STR rings from level 20..and we were dying a lot on the second boss. He was 39, didn't have Leeches so the sludge was killing us. After looking at him I felt bad saying "it's your gear". He saw and explained that really the game so far has let the fairy do the work so he's just winged it and if we die again he will leave.
In all fairness, even in cruddy gear, Cutters is very easy to heal. I just did it with an average ilvl of 30 on my AST - and I had the ring that gives you +spiritbond, because I had nothing else. If that happens again, have them bring out Selene for Fey Caress - a level 20 pet skill that aoe removes debuffs.

I loved that he took it so positive. He talked about how he would get better gear and it was an eye opener. Instead we worked with him, got him through the dungeon and did a full run. Even getting a few good pieces of free gear along the way.
That's awesome

I do see more bad players than bad people though...
We need FFXIV to add a scrub tag more than a new mentor one!
