This! So much this. I have an innate hatred for those loud constantly-bleeping Berserk macro's everyone are using. Unless you're doing Savage, that 5 second dps loss won't mean jack anyway.

If you're a decent war it's only a 2.5 second dps loss. And if you're savaging your healer should be good enough to A: identify you need esuna without a macro, or B: use that GCD to throw up a dot of their own anyway.

So for the most part, as a WAR main, I think these macros are stupid and signs of bad WARs.

however, the recent bard change has me conflicted. Even "good" bards tend to only pay attention to mages and foes, and ignore their ally's TP unless specifically asked for tp. And now they have access to an ability that basically begs to be used in synergy with WAR, that most will probably ignore as promptly as they ignore army's paeon. This has me more conflicted than ever over whether or not these obnoxious macros actually serve some purpose.

There's a difference between being selfish and being smart, and before this patch I'd side with you and say said WARs were just being selfish. As of this patch are they being selfish, or are people angrily scoffing and ignoring the macros still in the right, or only able to prop themselves up on self-righteousness at the cost of party efficiency?

Woah there, I never called anyone selfish.

To try and answer your question however, I feel it comes down to the individual. A "good" Bard, as you say, will pay attention to when the appropriate buffs are needed. In this case Bard has an ability that synergizes well with Warrior's Berserk, the Warden's Paean. Obviously any skilled Bard player would keep an eye out for instances in which the skill could be useful, like a Warrior about to get pacified by Berserk in this case. And to build on your first statement: in Savage the player should be good enough to indentify this without the use of a berserk macro at all. The one place where it actually matters that you optimize. Outside of that I don't feel it necessary to clog the party chat with sound notifications every other second whenever a Warrior uses Berserk. That's just my opinion though.

I'm honestly not quite sure how to answer the last part of your post. In my mind any player that doesn't want to contribute to the efficiency of the party as a whole needs to take another look at their toolkit.

That's fair. I think with online posting people get hypersensitive to the "my post vs theirs" point of view. You don't need a definitive answer to anything I posted, but you've done a great job considering it in any case. I was just laying out all my thoughts on the topic more than making any one argument one way or another. And I apologize if you got the impression I was slandering you with the selfish thing. That's very much my own impression on the subject: prior to this patch WARs with obnoxious macros were either self centered, or too inexperienced to realize how little the 5 second pacify really mattered.

At the end of the day it definitely seems reasonable that no matter how nice it would be if everyone played optimally, educating bards on ultimately minor dps gains isn't worth all the blips and beeps and caps.

Actually with 3.2 patch berzerk macro has a little place in my macro list ( i never used it, i ain't that important to put it plainly "WATCH ME").

Wanderers paeon or stuff that was made oGCD (the one placing debuff resist on you). it can be cast anytime on the tank or just <tt> to do not bother. it has 30 sec duration. AND it's more efficient than esuna since there is no 1 sec ping delay.
