    Question Need/greed/pass etiquette

I've been playing for around two months now and I'm still not sure about how this works. Is there any time when it's acceptable to roll greed on drops? I've been mainly rolling need if I really do need it or pass if I don't, but now that I'm lvl 60 on my first class, I can't help but to think that some of the stuff would be helpful on my next classes.

Also, I've seen the "<insert item name here> could not be obtained" message, so my deduction is if everyone rolls pass, the loot is lost.

So how does it work exactly?

If you want something just roll greed. Greed means it's not an upgrade on your current class/job but you still want the item for other purposes. Unless someone specifically asks for a certain item no one should get upset with you rolling greed.

If you want it take it.
I literally greed/need everything because Company Seals, unless someone explicitly asks me before "can you please pass?". In that case I usually will.
Unless I also want that item for glamour. Then I'll go "we'll have a greed-off", if I'm able to need it.

Clearly, the best Final Fantasy character is Locke Cole.
    Glamour is TRUE ENDGAME

I roll "Need" on items that are upgrades or that I am personally after. I "Greed" on items I don't particularly want but don't care for. I pass on items that have been asked for.

I need on what I actually need OR when I'm really completely out of company seals.
I greed on everything when I'm out of seals, if not, on the gear I like the look of or know some class is close to needing it.
When I'm capped on seals, I tend to pass on pretty much everything.

Special case: someone asked to pass on one specific item. In that case, I'll pass unless I really NEED it myself OR have glamour hunted it for hundreds of runs already. No I don't care, that Shiva bow is mine now..! >.>

Of course, in farm parties and the like, I follow the loot rules that were decided beforehand.

If you have a use for it beyond seals, need. If you just want some extra seals, greed. If it's too low to bother or a material you won't use, pass.

The etiquette is that basically everyone greeds most things, and RNG distributes it all.

Need it if you can, greed it if you cannot.

Desynth, glamour and seals is all things are usually good for a lot of the time (esp in 60 dungeons). I will pass only when asked to because if you don't at least greed, so much just needlessly hits the floor and if you're like me, you are always in need of at least seals for ventures or other items.

However, if I have been farming an item I still need/greed even if asked to pass.

The only time I expect someone to flat pass all items is if I help them with a win. For instance if we are carrying you through extreme primals free, just to be nice and get you wins, pass. I feel its rude to get carried through content and then take the loot.

OK, I guess I can afford to be a bit more selfish then. Thanks for your answers.

You were also right that when everyone passes you get the unable to obtain message. Im sure youve seen it a ton by now, so that should give you an indication of how often no one in the group wants a particular item. If the others dont care, they cant get upset at you for taking the stuff they dont want. If they do want it? Theyll either say something, or theyll also hit need/greed and the game will distribute. If youre at all nervous about any of this, just say towards the beginning of the run something like "im gearing a ______, anyone care if i take the drops for it?" And 99 times out of 100, they wont have any issue.

Roll on everything. GC buffs don't pay for themselves.
