I actually think the requirements are to easy. I don't qualify as I only have tanks to 60 and roughly 600 trials. However, my dragoon and white mage are basically both a day of fates away, and i can get the other trials but just an afternoon of slamming poor Ifrit NM in underman.

I sould not be trusted with young minds.... If I can clear the requirement, then its to easy.

Just wait for the huge wave of people that are going mentors just for the status, and not doing anything about it. I expect either alot more rants like this till Square Enix does something about it.

I thought I was alone in this. There are exceptions out there, there are people that genuinely want to help, but those are too few.

I don't really like the mentor requirements, despite meeting them all, as none of them are anything except "I have grinded for a long time". Having grinded something for ages does not mean someone will be a capable mentor. Nothing is gated behind any semblance of ability.

I truly hope it works out as intended, and mentors are able to help new people improve etc, but there is also the risk of people seeing someone is a mentor, and therefore assuming they know what they're talking about... when they don't necessarily do.

I know this sounds extremely negative, it's not meant to be, just raising a concern.
Maybe clearing the new dps dummy (earth sea sky or whatever its called) should also have been a gate

The most important ability of a mentor is to be able to deal with other people, which is hard to measure. That aside, the most important knowledge will be that of the first few levels and the most basic game mechanics, because that's what most mentees will have trouble with. Again, hard to measure.

The next benefit of mentors is to gain social connections and entry into LS/FCs more easily as newbie. A reflection of this is nowhere to be seen in the requirements at all (yet).

I find the current requirements quite misplaced, but I constantly snicker at what some people here think mentors will actually be doing. Goes completely against my experience with introducing friends to games.

What people don't seem to get is that when you become a mentor you're not mentoring one class but an entire party With this in mind, it's important to know all of the dungeons so you can give the new players intrusions on the bosses, know how to play all of the classes so you can let people know if they doing anything wrong and finally, you need to be able to play those jobs well.

I'd honestly say that 300 commends might not be enough, but that's probably an unpopular stance. As for everything else, the mentor requirements seem just fine to me. Granted I'm one of those people how are well beyond the requirements, so I could be a bit jaded.

To reiterate: The point though is so a single mentor can help a full party of noobies, you don't get a single person to focus on.

I've been mentoring new players for years, now. You don't need a fancy title to help people.

This is exactly what I can't understand with this new system. If someone wants to help new people, he can just help new people.

If mentor system doesn't offer any rewards, then people, who don't like to help new people won't suddently start doing this. If it offers some good reward, people who are bad at this, will start doing this just for reward (for example... me), and I don't think it will be anything good for new players.

    So.. what's the point?

Making it clear to newbies who is willing to provide help and who isn't?
