People like this are why mentoring is going to be hard to implement - a healer who is proud that they don't even play their class properly."All the healers who say "I picked healer to heal, if I wanted to DPS I'd get a DPS", well you're rekt now. Better start DPSin'."
LOL. When I am healing I do not DPS. I do have DPS classes at 60, when I am in the mood to DPS I will play my level 60 Bard or Ninja. When I am healing I am there to heal and keep people alive not DPS.
Looks like I need to get my tank to 60 if I want to mentor though.
"Stand there, arms outstretched, and press nothing until you see someone's health drop - this is how you watch Netflix on another monitor while playing FFXIV!"
The most important ability of a mentor is to be able to deal with other people, which is hard to measure. That aside, the most important knowledge will be that of the first few levels and the most basic game mechanics, because that's what most mentees will have trouble with. Again, hard to measure.
The next benefit of mentors is to gain social connections and entry into LS/FCs more easily as newbie. A reflection of this is nowhere to be seen in the requirements at all (yet).
I find the current requirements quite misplaced, but I constantly snicker at what some people here think mentors will actually be doing. Goes completely against my experience with introducing friends to games.
What people don't seem to get is that when you become a mentor you're not mentoring one class but an entire party With this in mind, it's important to know all of the dungeons so you can give the new players intrusions on the bosses, know how to play all of the classes so you can let people know if they doing anything wrong and finally, you need to be able to play those jobs well.
I'd honestly say that 300 commends might not be enough, but that's probably an unpopular stance. As for everything else, the mentor requirements seem just fine to me. Granted I'm one of those people how are well beyond the requirements, so I could be a bit jaded.
To reiterate: The point though is so a single mentor can help a full party of noobies, you don't get a single person to focus on.
I've been mentoring new players for years, now. You don't need a fancy title to help people.
If you actually do this, you probably shouldn't be a mentor in the first place.
-How'd you get to be a mentor?
-Oh haha i grinded this piss easy trial by myself over and over
=/= "Skill" or whatever word you want to use.
I and many others have never done said grind and are close to/if not already achieved that. It doesn't take forever. It's a reward for staying faithful to the game for however long and clearing stuff, not because you're "pacient".
No u.
This is exactly what I can't understand with this new system. If someone wants to help new people, he can just help new people.
If mentor system doesn't offer any rewards, then people, who don't like to help new people won't suddently start doing this. If it offers some good reward, people who are bad at this, will start doing this just for reward (for example... me), and I don't think it will be anything good for new players.
So.. what's the point?
The point of the mentor system is to connect new players into the community, the idea is that people who are patient and willing to help will introduce new players to the game. At no point is it required for you to be the best at your class because that does not make you a good or bad mentor. The best mentor are the people who are patient and enjoy working with others even if it is slow/inefficient. To assume all new players want to be raid ready at 60 or raid at all is silly. Many will enjoy just exploring the world. If you want to be a mentor realize everyone one who starts playing might want something different and help guide them there. All in all it is up to the players to develop the community not the devs.
On the other hand, Ifrit NM is far more relevant to how mentors help new players in their first 40 hours than for example Alex relic farming or ex primal pony/tank mount farms. You have no way of checking what dungeons/trials some veteran has grinded to bloat their instance count so why shame someone for doing the content they are likely going to help newbies with anyway?
