Every single aspect of life has to have a way to be quantified. The Mentoring system is no different. Graduating college doesn't necessarily mean you'll make a good astrophysicist. Dropping out of high school doesn't necessarily mean you aren't mentally intelligent enough to be a heart surgeon. But there are things called "standards" that us adults have to abide by. Standards are quantifiable aspects of life...they are numbers we are expected to achieve in order to gauge our aptitude in the eyes of our superiors. It's just life, and you have to accept it for what it is. You may be the biggest braniac in the world, but if you couldn't get yourself through high school and college, the people would have every right to question your resolve.

Consider that the requirements are reasonable enough to have already been met, and if not, easy to achieve. On top of that, for anyone truly interested in helping people, rewards and exploitation of the system are equally not a concern. Someone who fate farms a 60 job/role won't be nearly as solid/knowledgeable as someone who actively played and learned that job/role, and it will be quite obvious from the moment a mentor might say "uh I dunno actually. I just leveled this job to become a mentor" And if they try to bluff, like I said in the other thread, trust but verify.

The fear-mongering really needs to stop. The system is rather foolproof. Reward farmer? There won't be much (initially). Rushed requirements? Low experience to teach with. Bad mentor? Other mentors, guides, FRIENDS, and resources available. Stubborn student? The School of Hard Knocks will teach them instead. Overnight job/role experts? 2-3 year veterans.

There is literally no cause for concern here anymore.

First of all I think the mentor requirements are decent. They are based on very obtainable merit as they should be. Merit doesn't imply you are going to be good, rather it is objective proof you have potential to be. It should also be noted that Mentor roulette includes synced EX primals so knowing fights like Ramuh Extreme and Shiva EX, etc. will be necessary unless you plan on going in there and being like "I don't know." The inclusion of EX primals in this roulettes means it likely won't be quick and easy in and out like a dungeon roulette depending on the duty you get. Spamming fates will not teach you how to tank ramuh ex. So while I don't some people will cheese the system, acting like it is going to be the rule as opposed to the exception with no proof and without ever having used said system is a bit silly imo.

As far as trolling and people joining specifically to troll/harass, from the patch notes it seems like mentors are going to be held to a bit higher standards. In regards to the novice network for instance, kicking someone from the channel automatically triggers a customer service ticket (GM request) and outwardly talks about the revocation of mentor privileges. Harassing others is also is a violation of TOS and can lead to an account ban. Considering the relatively high necessity for Patience and time and direct interaction with GM's on infractions along with generally limited awards for using the system I doubt most people will even bother to do it beyond those who are interested.

I'm glad for the way they did this system. At least they are taking a more active stance against trolling in some ways.

Reading the Mentor requirements, you can be a crafter/gather to gain mentor status. Correct me if I'm wrong but it doesn't specifically say that you can not use the Mentor Roulette when you join as a crafting/gathering mentor, it just seems to put you under "Mentor" status either way.

After reading the preliminary patch notes, I really don't think trolling is going to be a problem at all at this point. Any troll who attempts to abuse the mentoring system is essentially painting a huge target on themselves, not only with veteran players, but SE.

I'm glad Niroken finally pointed out that crafting will also be a viable avenue to become a mentor. Much of the thread has focused on the battlecraft side, and though I was wary to get into it, I wondered why no one mentioned the crafting side ('cept my boy Callback [he's not going to appreciate me calling him "my boy"...and now I kinda wanna take it back...too late!]).

As for anyone who thinks that these requirements "do not make a good mentor", I would like to know: What method should SE employ to ascertain what does make a good mentor?
