Characters With Anime Names

. Tbh I was always shy about posting on forums and whatnot and always just enjoyed reading them, and only recently got the courage to start posting. Guess I'm gonna go back to just reading.

Nah, don't go back to reading. My take on this is that KaitlanKela didn't like getting called out for being rude and insulting and is reacting in a fairly immature manner by doubling down on their conduct. It's kind of sad to see KaitlanKela trying the "I never insulted you" defense despite the fact that they did in fact insult your character directly.

Replying specifically to you and saying of the character name you chose to use;

"I find her cheap, trashy and out-of-place. So that's what I think of when I see your name."

Precisely why Kaitlan feels it's appropriate or necessary to continue along this line with you I am not sure.

Kaitlan, I don't care how you personally want to rationalize this one, you should at least have the guts to accept accountability for your words. What you wrote was directly insulting to the character name that Tairiel has chosen to use, based on your personal opinions of the author that brought that character name to a completely separate fictional world. Finishing it off with "So that's what I think of when I see your character name" simply extends your insulting thought to Tauriel's character. So, yeah, you did insult Tauriel, whether you want to accept responsibility or not. Wouldn't it be easier to simply accept that you have insulted someone, even if that was not your intent, and back down? Contrition is a vastly underrated trait in today's society.

Any time. Forums can be very unfriendly places. This one can become very 'salty' (the currently popular euphemism used to describe flames on this forum). However, if you enjoy playing FFXIV, and love your character, then don't allow one or two people to in effect bully you from the forum. Much like the game, this forum has a 'blacklist' feature for a reason...

Now, I'm sorry to be making this post considering how stupidly derailed this topic already is, but I feel I need to say this.

The OP's topic was about people who chose anime character names for their avatar in FFXIV, and asking those on the same server to friend them. Sounds like a nice happy go-lucky topic. But, at least two posters have taken it upon themselves to be some kind of character naming convention enforcement force arguing with using such names; arguing that names of characters are somehow out of place because they violate all manner of naming lore. In particular, one player who paired a fictional Middle Earth name with a real Japanese word, has come under fairly heavy criticism for their choice of name. Apparently pairing a fictional name with a Japanese word for modern day archery is somehow jarring or inappropriate. Considering the number of names in all languages that are based on root words such as this, or names that are literally the word that describes the role (Smith, Carpenter, Fisher, Bowman, Joiner, etc...), I can't see any argument that says using Kyudo or Kyudoka would be inappropriate.

Folks, that's not what this topic is about. Nor did anyone invite criticism of their choice in name. Sure it's a public forum and you're posting your opinions, but let's not stretch the truth too much here, such as was done when saying that the insulting critique of a character's name was what the topic was about. If you somehow gain that idea from the OP, I would have to question your reading skills, and no, I'm not trying to be insulting, I mean literally, if you gain that meaning from the OP, you really don't understand what was written.

Now, just for shits and giggles, let's just drop the OP in here, and restart the discussion where people with names from anime characters are not going to get critiqued on their choice, and people just have fun. OK?
