I thought this was going to be a thread for making fun of anime character names. I was disappointed.

As a writer, I don't think I'll see eye to eye with anyone using an anime character's name (or any pop cultural reference, really) for their own... but I also recognize it's just a game and people will do whatever they feel like doing. I imagine there's a lot of people who have little to no attachment to their character and just wanted to jump in and play, so they used the random name generator, or thought something along the lines of "I like X person from Y anime/manga/video game, so I'll use their name!"
That aside, I know a couple who played as Shiro and Sora Veda, and they lead the Blank FC. I'm kinda glad that they're not around anymore because they always remind me how badly I want a second season of NGNL.
Whoa now just because people name thier character after an anime doesn't mean they are not attached to it. If I name my son or daughter after me it doesn't mean I'm not attached to them. All names have a purpose and uniqueness to them. I'm not saying those people don't exist but you can't generalize like that.
Right because pre-judging and forming an opinion of something isn't what it means. And your right because the narrative makes absolutely no sense when an anime name is used. Game ruined.

I don't see the big deal about anime/video game/book/etc names being used. I actually love seeing people who manage to snag a great name and go all out glamouring their character to look like their namesake, it's like cosplay! Sure the Kirito and Haseo names get a little silly sometimes, but at that point I have to admire their dedication to being named after a character that they'll think of the most crazy ways to accomplish it.
Then again, I named my character after a tree so I have no room to criticize anyone's name...

Once I get an anime based off myself, I'll get back to you.

Aeka Masaki here, named after the Jurain Princess from the Tenchi Muyo! anime. My FFXI char was named the same when FFXI was released in NA.

You get a Like by me. I have the first Tenchi Muyo! on DVD, then Tenchi Universe, Tenchi in Tokyo, and Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki that I found at a used bookstore.
My girlfriend and I decided on names for our children, and we will use 2 names that were used in video games and anime. My girlfriend likes the name Iris for a girl, and our daughter's middle name will be Kikyo (we both love InuYasha), plus "kikyo" in Japanese is a type of bellflower. Our son will be named Leon Hayate. My girlfriend lives in Japan, so that's why we chose those names (although she's Vietnamese).
EDIT: Why make a character named after an anime when you can name a character after a voice actor/actress? Lol http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/13873884/ Made her last night.
Welp I have no words
