About the mentor system and the training hall, but not about the dummy
So, from what we've seen in Stone, Sky Sea, you choose a difficulty, and it gives you a DPS check to meet within a timer. (The timers varied, but one of the ones showed was like a 3min rotation)
We don't know if there's someway that other players can easily confirm if you've passed them, and it's not mandatory to enter savage or the like, nor was a reward mentioned at all (Though the dragoon in the vid was doing a unique emote, so who knows).
And no matter what, it's a poor measure of DPS, because it's a dummy.
Let's say you're a DRG, and you're pushing from some where between 1.4k-1.6k dps on a raw training dummy. Well, let's say there's an A3S Dummy. On that fight DRGs are probably around the 1.1-1.3k range. What DPS check does the dummy have?
Is it adjusted to a 1.2k DPS requirement because that's technically what you need? Or is it adjusted to what a player SHOULD be hitting on a dummy, (A fight with no mechanics). If a player can only hit 1.2k dps on a dummy, can they reasonably be expected to make that check in a fight with mechanics? They could barely do it on a dummy.
Like, the only saving grace here, is if the fights in Midas are DRASTICALLY less check-intensive than A3S and A4S, they said they would be, but that remains to be seen.
This is about what I expected from it given SE's additude on being able to measure your damage. A dummy that doesn't track your DPS and you can't prove you clear it.
SE doesn't want you to worry too much about DPS beyond "Can I kill it?"
Why do you think that Stone, Sky, and Sea isn't good for PS4 users? It may be an instanced fight, and I bet you that you have to take out the dummy by attacking it. After passing the trial, I bet you it will tell you how much damage you did with your rotations. And that will clearly tell you how much DPS you are doing with any sort of gear regardless of console or PC. It may even reward you with a title or even items depending if there is a time limit for defeating the dummies during the trial. You just have to wait and see and not assume for what you saw in the trailer.
The only issue I have with it is that it doesn't look like it's going to tell you why you fail if you fail. It's one thing for the game to say "You don't do enough DPS" but if it still makes players go outside of the game to a third party source just to find out what they are missing then it's never going to be as successful as it could/should be. If a player is already failing the DPS check there's a pretty good chance they aren't someone who's going to want to do homework.
What the Stone, Sea and Sky seem to be are simply for people to get a better read on how they are doing and try new rotations. What has been the issue I have heard about here and on Reddit is there are people who get really mad at other players for not doing enough DPS. When they in fact are doing bad damage, that's where some of the memes come from. (Yes they were parsing, and I don't know enough to say but besides photoshop I don't know how they would skew the numbers) But at least people can get an idea for their output. Did I fail? No, how close did I beat the timer? Maybe I should ask someone for tips? How can I improve?
You are expecting way too much AI if you want the dummy trial to explain what is wrong about your rotation. The only issue I have with it is that it doesn't look like it's going to tell you why you fail if you fail. But a normal parser also don't say you why you don't do more dmg. It only show you the damage you did, not what you can do (or I just hope there is no parser that think for the player). The only issue I have with it is that it doesn't look like it's going to tell you why you fail if you fail. It is the players duty to find out what skills and equip can increase the damage. The dummy (and parsers) should only help to find the rotation that kill the enemy fast, be it with damage numbers or a timer.
You can also use a calculator, if you need the damage number.
Dummy have x HP, killed it in z minutes, I did y/sec damage.

Dummy's just there to tell you if you are tall enough to ride this ride. If you beat it, you qualify, that's all anyone needs to know. If you don't, it's not the game's job to tell you what to do - if you pay for this game's sub, you're old enough to figure things out for yourself, whether via your own napkin math or looking things up on the internet, or asking other people. Maybe you should try the Beginner Hall if you can't beat it?
It'd just better tell us if we miss attacks.
I'm strictly a console player, but I agree with your message. You can't stop people from modding the game or using a 3rd party tool, so I find it quite silly that you think Square should "disable" the ability to do so when even they struggle to deal with RMTs. Parsers are against the TOS, but Square is on a "don't ask, don't tell" policy; as long as you are not announcing that you are using a parser or are using a parser to harass players, do what you will. Don't give parsing a bad name just because consoles can't use add ons.
