    DRK: Why isn't Provoke working?

    Hi

I'm a new DRK, level 41 now. I took Provoke as cross-class from Gladiator because I figured it would help if I lose aggro.

Today I was running Fates in Central Coerthas. I tried to use Provoke more than once, and it never worked. Not once. I always got "Provoke (fully resisted)" as a result.

That was on Fate-Bosses but also on normal mobs of those swarm-Fates, when I saw one of them hacking on a healer, and I wanted to get it to me. Well, I got them, but not with Provoke.

So, any idea why wasn't Provoke working?

Granted my gear isn't pretty great, but that shouldn't matter, should it?

Provoke doesn't work in fates, due to the fact that FATE contribution is enmity based. So you could just run in, 'voke, and you'd have instant gold contribution.

Provoke when figuring it out as a new tank was a bit tricky for me at first, until I read the tooltip a little bit more. They key to Provoke is that it does not generate any enmity whatsoever. It only puts you at the top of the hate list for aggro.
If any damage is dealt to the monster before another enmity attack is used, you get placed 2nd in on the hate generated.

The best way to provoke is to follow up with another enmity attack. This will keep you at the top of the hate list. (Spinning Slash recommended)

This. Provoke doesn't work in FATEs or on hunt NMs.

Ah ok, that explains it. I was going crazy trying to figure out what I was doing wrong.

Ahhhh.... I always assumed it was to stop people from trolling fates by resetting them on purpose back when the boss didn't just turn to the next-highest on the aggro list after being pulled out of range. I see!

I'll be the one to say it since no one else has, this is a prime example of why, particularly for tanks, FATEs are a poor way to level because they don't teach you very much about playing your job in a party context.

Voke will always work in dungeons. I highly recommend getting some dungeon leveling in for your DRK at some point. =] It'll straight-up make you a better player and tank.

back in the early days this was a issue, you had people provoking Fates boss's outside there zone and resting them.

Have to agree with this. Fates are a good way to add up some exp here and there, maybe to just fill in enough to get into the next dungeon tier, but they should not be the sole leveling method for any class. Even more so in those horde fate parties where there is really no form or roles.

If you say 'pls' because it's shorter than 'please', I say 'no' because it's shorter than 'yes'.
