Traveling through Eorzea the first time on foot or mount is awesome, but after seeing the same places 2000000 times it's nice to be able to just teleport around. And like others said, if you think teleport is ruining the way you play the game, then don't use it. The option is there for players to use if they want to and it should stay like that.

Well that's the other thing I have issue with. The landscape in this game isn't that vast even if I wanted to chocobo it. I feel like it's a linear game. Say I wanted to take some bizarre route... I'm going to hit a wall fairly quickly in either direction... And the possibility of being lost is almost impossible. I will give credit to the new content though for being larger due to the flying mechanic.

Also just for the sake of argument, giving the players a choice to hoof it wouldn't solve the issue if quick travel was indeed an issue that's causing problems in game, it would have to be mandatory to give the desired effect (again just for sake of argument).

    How does it kill immersion?

Even NPCs and story characters use the teleport feature. :|

I think if they worked teleportation into the main story more directly or at least more often, it would feel a lot better for me personally. There are a few scattered references to it, but not very many, which makes it feel more like something that exists for the sake of gameplay rather than for the sake of the world itself. NPCs frequently walk off toward where ever they say they're going to meet you in quest scenes, when you would think they would just teleport right in front of you—just like you frequently do.

The gil cost is also sort of dissociated—I mean, who collects my money, if I use one? They do explain that it's a tax levied by the cities or something like that, but it's not as though you get a bill in the mail. It just magically disappears from your gil count. I think I'd prefer some sort of internal cooldown (like Return, or the old Aether cost it had in 1.0).

It's certainly part of the lore in game, but it's not very well integrated into the world itself.

    To put it another way:

For me, it just comes down to the fact that, like Kaurie mentioned, a large part of the game feels like using windows to enter content, rather than actually journeying to that content. FFXI actually now has a similar network of "Geofounts" that are essentially Aetheryte crystals, but the crucial difference is that you can't teleport to them from anywhere. They work largely like the in-city Aetheryte networks, meaning you actually interact with something in game to get around. The in-city networks bother me much. It's just the biggies.

If you actually had to go to a city Aetheryte to warp to another one, it would feel a lot better to me personally, as it would involve engaging with the world in a way that we largely don't right now.

NPCs are cheap and don't want to spend gil. Mystery solved. :P

Honestly, I'm cheap when comes to teleporting. Rather than spending 4xx on a teleport from Ul'dah to Limsa, I would take the airship and get to Limsa that way. Anyway to save money on teleporting, I will take it.

I recently replayed through the game on an alt - and there is certainly a sense of wonder and beauty when you're required to travel by mount or on foot. But that novelty quickly (VERY QUICKLY) wears off. By the time I hit the 2.1 content, I was tired and ready to just be able to teleport back and forth to my quest destinations. I still like to stop and just visit locations in game sometimes and appreciate their beauty and the scope of the world - but long travel can and does get tiring for many players who just want to quickly hop in somewhere and get some content done on a limited time schedule.

Not teleporting looks great in an MMO anime. Sadly in real life it just doesn't seem too fun to walk everywhere.

If SE dedicated some time for chocobo flying paths and removing the teleport. Yes it will be much more immersive.
However since its already there, you can just guess how many people will whine for removing teleport.

Oh trust me. Teleportation will seem less of an immersion breaker when you see the flying turtle (and eventually Fenrir and possibly tank mounts).
