Oh, don't get me wrong. I hate the Duty Finder. I almost didn't switch over to this game from FFXI when I found out they were adding it during the Beta. But of the two, I think we'd be more likely to see, say, the 4.0 areas have fewer Aetherytes than we would be for the amount of content in the DF to ever be scaled back.

I actually rather like content that doesn't let us use it (like the original Chimera and Hydra fights, as well as the current raid tier for a given patch cycle), and I'd like to see more of it, but the addition of Chimera and Hydra to the DF (and Roulettes, in general), suggests that won't ever really happen.

I swear I've seen him teleport before though, but yeah. I never really put much thought into the animations they use tbh, they probably just use the walk off animation because it's easier or something.

I don't think they show him doing it, but in at least one quest, he does make an offhand mention about how long it took you to get to him and says something about how he teleported there. But even for that one, he still walks off beforehand. I remember getting sort of irritated (granted, I already greatly dislike Alphinaud) at him for his stupid little comment. >.>

My FC keeps the reduced teleportation fee buff active all the time pretty much.

I wouldn't say it kills immersion, but it kills the social aspect of the game. In 1.0 you had teleport parties because people ran out of anima. When you travelled by boat you were in an instance on that boat with others for a few minutes. You would have to then wait x minutes if you missed it for the next boat. I think they should bring that back for airships.

More people travelling by foot or mount may encourage people to be more social.

Fuck immersion. If there were no teleportation I probably wouldn't be playing this game. Walking is the bane of my existence.

In the first level or two where the game's basic mechanics were being explained and we first got the Teleport skill, I tried it once, realized I'd just wasted several gil getting to somewhere I could have just walked to, decided that's really pointless, and proceeded to ignore its existence. While leveling my first class and job, although I used Return semi-regularly, I think I only used the actual "Teleport" skill twice more, both times to help out FC mates who needed something (a raise in one case, help with a FATE the other time). Although Return is functionally the same effect, its limitations of a single destination and a long cooldown (half an hour at the time) kept it from overtaking "normal" travel around Eorzea. For the most part, when I wanted to get somewhere, I'd walk, ride my chocobo, or where necessary board a ship or airship.

Once I neared level 50, however, I got interested in Hunts, and that led to frequent teleporting around to search for them or reach ones that a teammate had found. Frequent use of it for that purpose made avoiding it other times to travel overland start to seem more like an artificial limitation rather then the natural means of reaching my destination. Shortly thereafter, I got access to a free Teleport location, and removal of the original disincentive further encouraged treating teleportation as a normal means of travel. I've now just recently gotten BTN and MIN high enough to gather from unspoiled nodes. That's going to be another source of frequently necessary teleporting.

Standard normal travel by foot or chocobo has gone from an essential aspect of needing to get somewhere into an offhand leisure activity for when I don't have anything else going on and just want to view the scenery. It's the difference between walking to a destination to reach it and taking a walk for the sake of taking a walk. You see the scenery in either case, but in one you have a sense of purpose while doing so. Overland travel has lost much of that sense of purpose, and the entirety of its tie-in to the story of the game in the process.

From 1-49 (or 1-45 for DoL), teleporting was a convenience feature. It's available for those who want to use it, and ignorable for those who don't. I for one would have much preferred for it to stay that way. I could have gone on happily ignoring it.

They can't realistically remove teleportation from an MMO in 2016, but I'd love to see a sidequest (or sidequest line) that makes you do some things on foot+boat. Like deliver some item that can't survive high altitudes or teleportation because handwave-plot-device. Bring it from Bronze Lake to Idyllshire

It better be worth the hassle then since at this point we can just breeze through all mobs in our 210 gear.
