I'm not sure that SE can do anything to satisfy the OP. Then again, I'm not sure any company running an MMO can always make things "new and exciting" for longer-term subscribers.

If you look at the bare-bones architecture of an MMORPG you'll see the following:

    story
    questing
    instanced and world group play
    instanced and world PvP
    crafting/gathering
    gear rewards
    achivements and rewards

How popular an MMORPG becomes depends on the story and the amount of instanced group play available. Eventually, you run out. For a non-MMO RPG you've basically 'finished' the game, after which you go play something else.

How to keep up a long-term relationship with an MMORPG? Take it in smaller chunks. Vary your routine with other MMOs. Play BnS for a bit. Play WoW, or TSW or SWOTR or Wildstar. If you're jumping between genres (JRPG, fantasy, scifi, horror, conspiracy-theory-as-daily life) you get the variety without becoming bored with any one of them.

Also realize that, eventually, you will become jaded. The shiny new-ness is no longer there -- for you. For the brand-new player it is still a shiny new toy.

Many posts I've read lately can be summarized as "This game would be so great, if only it were redesigned to be another game entirely". That might be a bit, um, optimistic. Another game entirely may not be exactly what you asked for, and many of the things you came to love about this game might not even be there.

Umm...Diadem is not long term content, unless you mean it as a never ending fate run...

Are you saying Diadem is a good example of long-term content? >o>
It's pretty much FATE grinding (except for treasure, instead of EXP) and gathering but with a timer...

Long term content means something that isn't garbage after three (four to five now seems to be more like it) months. Which diadem does not come close to because the 210 gear is being replaced at the end of the month.

If you guys are quiting give us your gil, items and houses no point in a person having two or three homes and fc house (yes i've met people that do this for "Extra storage" but really just cuzz they got too much gil and don't want others having nice things too). Better yet just give us your accounts i'm sure there's people who are willing to pay for two accounts then your free to start a brand new account if you want.

And what would you suggest? What could they add, with the way the game is set up, that would be considered "long term content"? People get bored of dungeons after 3 months, and you want them to do content longer than that?

let's have a look at what we got in this game other than instance :

Fates : some FATEs are nice, when they are properly designed, like in south shroud the KING Fates or the siege. other than that, it's a terrible idea of a content.
Hunts: same as fates are just mostly a zerc fest, except maybe for a few where u need to look at mechanics like silence or something.
    Exploration : complete zerc
beastribe quests: just another form of quests, except they are daily nothing new here.

so all of the above its basically either a brainless zerc or more quests.

the actually content is just the instances, dungens , hm primals are easy, and extreme primals / raids like coil or alexander.

the only content that is not a pure zerc is alexander, and it's locked so either u do with ur grp wiping a few hours per week or u complete in 2 hour and ur done for the week, there is nothing else that u can do in the game, that is not zerced.

Personally I've always wanted more open world field zones and less instances. We got 6 major field zones with flight enabled in the expansion, but 6 zones every 2 years isn't much. I would prefer 1 new field zone every 3 months in each major patch so we have places to explore more often, complete with new quests, hunt mobs, gathering nodes, etc.

I think you answered your own question. It isn't as if they're forced to make dungeons the only thing worth doing in the game outside of raiding and crafting. Which is why they made other content like the GC and Diadem(just needs some tweaking really imo)... the problem is that the 'other' content isn't designed well enough to support long term fun and only lasts as long as initial hype. Look at Gold Saucer stuff. Look at hunts. Look at anything in game. Remember how fast it all died out?

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My suggestion would be to implement more fun focused content. Less focus on grinding for rewards. (like tomes) The rewards are usually worthless in 3 months anyhow. So I might as well do something i like doing just because i like doing it.

I honestly enjoy Chocobo races and Triple Triad. I like doing the missions for LoV as well. (We need more solo LoV missions so we aren't stuck waiting for opponents.) I cant stand the way they work at the moment. But they aren't unplayable. If they gave the GC more mgp rewards(like fashion and minions and mounts) and made the games run better(That cap for the mini cactpot is lame imo. It also shouldn't cost more every time you play it), or added more games a lot of people would return back. I mean really. Who wants to play pretend miner for more than the initial playing of it that you did only to see what it was? Snow boarding, Blitzball, Slot machines, The pve arena that you could fight through to gain clouds limit break omnislash in FFVII would be fun.
And all these games would be more useful if they gave us more prizes.

Also I've noticed when the devs add things we want or need its usually not quite what we requested. They do their problem solving by not solving problem, but by using work around methods.

I guess i cant really blame them though. When things aren't as fun as we want. We just quit. We don't do that content at all. And as others have stated we need to know exactly what about these things are falling short of our expectations and what would fix them. Rather than toss them to the side and waste the devs hard work and resources.

As other people have noted, Diadem isn't structured as long-term content, in terms of either the event itself or its rewards.

In terms of the content, you can see and do everything Diadem has to offer in just a few hours. All the areas, all the mobs, all the objectives, etc. Outside of the difference between the difficulties, the instance loads the same way every time. There's no variation in terrain or mob placement from one instance to the next.

Additionally, the reward structure doesn't encourage varied game play in the least. It's not even that grinding mobs is the best way to get equipment rewards; it's the only way to get equipment rewards.

As for the rewards themselves, the only way in which they encourage long-term play is through RNG, which is the least satisfying way to do that because it removes all player control from the system.
