    Silly question....

Is there anything specific you type and post knowing that you're immediately going to edit your post and paste your actual post just because of the 1000 character limit?

For me I usually just post ................................. then edit, delete the ....s and paste my post. How bout you?

I type my post out, always
then when the screen comes up I ctrl+X and then type something like "just a sec" or...whatever

then I edit and ctrl+v, save.

I usually type out the whole post, actually. Then, when I'm finished, I do a CTRL+X on all but the first line or first paragraph, hit post, and immediately edit. That way, the whole content of the post is ready with only a few seconds of delay from it being the newest post in the thread.

    "Incoming edit"
I mean, if you post a partial post or just a series of ellipsis and I catch the post before your edit is complete, I may not know if I should refresh the page!

I type the whole post out, and then just write a little bullet point saying, more is to come. Then quickly edit.

I usually just leave the first 10 or 12 characters and cut/paste the rest. If I'm replying to someone, this cuts it off in the middle of the opening [QUOTE] tag, which looks obviously unfinished. If not, I'll deliberately cut off in the middle of a word, in order to make it obviously unfinished.

(This is in case someone opens the page in that first second or two before I can click Edit / Paste / Save. I'd rather it be something that obviously looks like it needs to be refreshed, and this is simpler than writing something else out in the meantime and then overwriting it, like the "Incoming edit" suggestion.)

Sometimes, though, if my first paragraph can stand alone as a summary of my post and the rest is further elaboration on it, I'll post the full first paragraph, then paste in the remainder. If someone sees it in the meantime, oh well, they get the main point anyway.

My general rule of thumb, when I'm not quoting a post, is, after writing the whole thing, I'll cut all but the first 4-5 lines, and add a <incoming edit>, <cont...> etc to show that it's not complete, and then edit, and paste in the remaining lines right away, removing the break bit.

That being said, I feel the 1000 limit just needs to go, it does more to dissuade posting than it does help anything. Same with the post limit. We can't post without an active sub, that's enough of a block from just anyone posting, I feel
