The thing is, players who want the Merit Point system forget the whole reason it was even in FFXI in the first place - it was not to give players extra customization of stats, but to compensate for the fact the level cap was frozen at level 75 for over five years, and Job Points only built on that again because the level cap has now been raised as far as it can logically go (level 99).

FFXIV is a long way away from ever reaching that point so I won't hold my breath ever seeing such a system be introduced here in FFXIV, at least not for a long time yet, if at all.
