    WoD is in the Void?

Maybe I missed something, but WoD is it in the Void? If no, what is it? Just what the name says, the World of Darkness? But if it's a part of the Void, and considering the fact that we will surely going in the Void in some point during the Void Ark story arc, do you think it's a bit repetitive from SE to use again the Void for a 24-players Raid? But maybe I just didn't understand what is the exact nature of WoD and there is no link with the Void...

As far as we know, yep. I mean, just a few steps over. But yep.
Unei and Doga say that "The World of Darkness" is what Allagans called the void.

As far as we know, in FINAL FANTASY XIV's cosmology, Hydaelyn is a placid island of order in the midst of a vast sea of chaos, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The Darkness is home to infinite power, and infinite possibilities. The war on the Light in pursuit of its consumption and return to Darkness (or so claim most entities of the void we've come across) invites all manner of evil things to our doorstep.

In the Crystal Tower storyline, we met the denizen of the Dark that Xande consorted with: The Cloud of Darkness. She came with her own personality and style. Now, however, we're dealing with the fallout of Mhach's void mages and the attempted enslavement of Scathach, the Shadow Queen. As far as we know, Mhach was nothing like Allag, so there will be very little overlap in terms of flavor (aside from the appearances of some now-familiar lower-ranked voidsent).

The War of the Magi will theoretically be quite unfamiliar territory. Even though both ended up getting entangled with void personalities, the void is big. Like, infinity big. Who knows what else is out there.

Also, the Allagans named their little slab of the Void "the World of Darkness," but that doesn't preclude the existence of an actual world out there that is the darkness to our light. Kind of like how Christopher Columbus named the islands he found the "West Indies," believing himself to be in or near India, but in reality he had covered less than half the distance required and landed near a whole other entirely uncharted continent instead.

I'm thinking along the lines of Fenrir here. Who know how much (or how little) of the void they have explored and with their understanding of the Aether, that's saying a whole lot.

For such a technologically advanced civilization... Wait a second... Was this the Allagans or the Nymians who built the Void Ark... Either way, look forward to it!

Rocl is correct, the Mhachi built the Void Ark. Apparently, from what I've gathered from in game NPC conversations, the Mhachi civilization was predominantly concerned with exploring, enslaving, and tapping into various Voidal powers. As I recall, they were in direct opposition to the Amdapori civilization, which is why Diabolos was sealed by white magic, until we, as adventurers, broke the seal and released him into Eorzea (oops). The World of Darkness is a separate plane of existence that exists within a portion of the Void, as I recall, but the Void connects all planes to one another. Common FF multiverse theory is that the Void connects all the FF worlds to one another, a theory reinforced by Gilgamesh, who wanders the void attempting to find the world from FFV and kind of bouncing everywhere else instead.

Slightly rusty on my ff multiverse lore, so if anyone can offer speculation, that would be cool.

We did sort of. He was breaking free of his seal and corrupting the city around him. That's why the elementals got into a panic and we were tasked with finding out what evil was stirring in there. In order to get to Diabolos though we had to break the seal entirely. We thought we'd killed him in his weakened state but in fact he'd turned into a swarm of bats and escaped. He would have escaped eventually anyway but we did technically hasten the process.

Historical Amdapor is no requirement for Void Arc.

There is a slightly difference in the dialog with Cait Sith afterwards. But he is in the Arc even without doing historical Amdapor before.

So we are not the reason Diabolos got out of his seal.
