how many transfers did it take you to find the right server to stay on?

Transferred from Balmung to Phoenix, but that was more a timezone related thing. I played on Balmung during 1.x, and made a lot of friends there. Most of them were in the US though, and I'm in the EU, so ended up moving to Phoenix. Wasn't an easy decision.

No Transfers. I DO make the most out of my eight Alts though and Very Nearly Switched one of my Alts to my new Main when my Brother joined Hyperion to play with our mutual Real World Freinds. He didn't stick around. ((Both my friends and I Joined during Public Beta and didn't learn of each other's playing till we'd made friends server side.))

Technicly a few, however that was server mergers, iirc Istory > 1.0 Gungnir or something.

ARR rolled around and I did what the ENG community seemed to agree on, hopped onto Hyperion. And here I am.
I don't think I'd transfer away, even though there isn't much holding me here anymore.

1 transfer from Excalibur -> Mateus. The reason is because RL friends started playing on Mateus, and Mugen was stuck on Excalibur until SE allowed server transfers from legacy to nonlegacy servers. I played as an alt character from the beginning of 2.0 until I was able to transfer Mugen just so I could play with my RL friends. Fast forward from then until now and I only have two RL friends left on Mateus and they are talking about transferring to Behemoth. I'm torn regarding transferring as I've become quite accustomed to playing on Mateus and seeing the regulars that I see on a daily basis and I have over 13 mil and would hate to lose over 12 mil just because I transferred servers to play with my 2 RL friends as they really don't play very often and it seems that the majority of time that they are on, they aren't on for long and are rarely on at the same time as I am.

Most likely I'll stick with Mateus. It's a small server but has a good community and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't care for an extremely populated server.

I started on Valefor. I ended up moving a few months later around the time 2.2 hit because I had really bad lag and couldn't get through instances without at least 1-3 major DCs. I moved to Midgardsormr with some friends from my FC, and after awhile there (and some lovely drama), I just decided it wasn't the place for me. I moved with another friend to Siren a ways into 2.3, and I stayed there for over a year. I formed a pretty good raid team there, but due to IRL reasons, we ended up losing members. Siren's raiding/endgame scene had been declining steadily for the past year, and so we decided to server hop a few weeks ago to Leviathan in hopes to rebuild/find more players that want to tackle endgame content. I've been enjoying it so far. Not sure if it's "the one" yet, but we'll see!

I met the FC I'm in now back in the 2.0 closed beta. At the time we were on Cactuar. When the severs came up for Open Beta we all chose to create our characters on Excalibur (we had to choose legacy as many members played during 1.0) I will point out the characters created during closed beta no longer exist as they were wiped from the severs, anything created in the open beta stayed around into live.
