Why is the crafting window still so limiting?

As the title says, why is it so infuriating to do anything while in the crafting menu? After a craft completes (when you are kneeling), you cannot change crafting jobs, you cannot discard items, and you can't move anything around in your inventory. This is frustrating when you have recipes that require multiple crafters, or your inventory fills up, having to exit out the window, wait for you character to stand up, do what you need to do and re-enter the window every 2 mins. This is quite tedious and (as this problem exists nowhere else in the game) completely unnecessary.

Should have added the complete inability to use the crafting log whilst crafting. It's not as if looking at weaver recipes whilst crafting a pie as culinarian is a game breaking ability!

I was more thinking about after you finish the craft (but are still seated), but this is valid too, you can do all of this while at a gathering node, so I don't understand the issue

Should have added the complete inability to use the crafting log whilst crafting. It's not as if looking at weaver recipes whilst crafting a pie as culinarian is a game breaking ability!

This annoys me so much I hate not being able to press N and just look at random recipes while crafting and hitting a macro

If you have a second monitor, a second PC, or a tablet, you can use Garland Database to look at recipes. It's way better.

While nice to know, it's not really an excuse, or a reasonable replacement to the in game equivalent, and I'd much rather have it in game

I agree. Currently I have an Android tablet that displays gathering times via XIVClock running at all times plus my phone running CK FFXIV Companion to allow me to check recipes whilst crafting. Both things should be available in game, without additional software or needing to tab out to websites. We have crafting & gathering logs that are useless for the most important things, telling us where & when (gathering) & being available when we need it most (crafting).

I'd prefer it not to be in-game. Because Garland Tools is outside the game, I can use without it interference with my in-game activities, or even when not on the game. For example, with Garland, I can queue for a Roulette, and while I wait, I can put together a materials list for a gear set (as I did yesterday when I made a complete set L25 Gathering gear for my alt), get the mats out (tracking that Garland Tools), craft the intermediate mats (tracking in Garland), and craft the end products, and if the DF queue pops during any of that, my lists and progress is still over on Garland, still visible, still correct when the Duty ends. I can even close Garland and come back later, and the lists and all will still be there.

Doing that in-game would be difficult if not impossible. Plus Garland Tool isn't limited by server resource considerations or the need to run on PS3 either. It actually might be impossible to create something as nice as Garland Tools within FFXIV.
