You are still at low level, healing is very basic at that point. It gets a lot better by 50, when you start dpsing it gets more interesting.

You guys are awesome! I can't get over how many helpful people there are

Thank you for your advice on the pets, you two! I'll try out arcanist a bit more at some point, I think the one I have is level 16 or so? It was fun having a pet, I just got intimidated from the idea of controlling two things at once on my controller with my panicky fingers.

I'm happy to know now that I could just let my pet heal by themselves until I grow comfortable with using my own skill set.

Everything seems so fun, this is my issue! *tears hair out*

    My suggestion try them all.

My main is bard but I love white mage a lot. If you stance dance you won't get bored as well. Look at how much your healing spells do and work around that. Even at low levels you can dps a lot and then swap to healing and back to dpsing. You've got the toolkit just as a scholar has as does astro so all you need to do to not be bored is to use it ;p

And PS4 with controller here as well. There are some useful things you can do:
up/down on dpad goes through your party list
l1+up/down on dpad goes through enmity list(if you're dpsing this is helpful)
You can also setup filtering and switch between filters as needed to ease targeting as well.

Yeah it sounds like ACN/SCH would suit you well. There's some instant casts so you can be mobile, plus the fairy handles a lot of healing, even if not micro managed. Just stick on obey and play. When you want to dig deeper into the pets abilities you can, but it's not crucial for a long time. Plus you get SMN to play with too whenever you just want to blow things up.

Really though, the way the Armoury System is set up, feel free to select any class you like at any time - you don't lose the exp you've already put into your first class when you switch to another (each class has their own exp and set of ability points) so the game actually encourages you to switch classes. So go ahead and try out different classes! You might find you enjoy a class you were not expecting!
I'd second this advice. If you're unsure which job(s) you'll want, try several of them. Or try all of them. You don't need to make one decision about what your character will be and then stick with it. I started Y'kayah off as ARC/BRD, thinking that would be his main job, but as I was leveling ROG/NIN, I decided I was enjoying that one more, so it sort of became my "main" job (as near as I have a "main"). It could well change again as I level up others. This game is very flexible about advancing multiple jobs. Might as well take advantage of that.

And if you decide to stick with healing, the game encourages you to try out multiple versions of it. For either Scholar or Astrologian, you're going to want CNJ leveled to 34 for Stoneskin, so you'll have time to check out White Mage for a bit. And for White Mage, you're going to want ACN leveled to 34 for Eye for an Eye, so you'll have a chance to try out Scholar. They also all give you at least some lower level experience as a damage dealing caster, leveling THM to 26 for swiftcast and (for 2 of the 3 healing jobs) ACN through the first 30 levels until SCH is unlockable.

Ignore the meta for Astrologians, they do well enough and very few people deny based on jobs. There's just not a big enough difference in FFXIV for player skill to not override that, although people in intense situations like pushing for world firsts are going to want every advantage they can get. I think you might like the card system.

I personally went to main AST because as a former WHM main, I was bored as well
AST has (close to) everything WHM has, but additionally all the card skills. With that, I have always something to do, which is just more fun than throwing one big heal after another with the occasional dps switch. Or you can play it like a SCH but without the annoying fairy
In the end, AST shines in speed, flexibility and support and there is no content in the game that can't be cleared with an AST instead of other healers.
Of course, like others said, you will need another class at 50 though (and the expansion bought).
So nothing wrong with sticking with WHM for a while either; you'll have a lot faster queues than if you switched to BRD or any other DPS class while leveling up, and you might come to enjoy WHM more as you level up as well^^

And most players have several, if not all classes leveled in the end, simply because they enjoy more than one. So as Enkidoh said, you can try out many classes (although all are very limited at first and only get really fun/interesting in higher levels xD). Personally, I'd say that it might be a good idea to just focus on one first to do the story with. The bigger the difference between your highest class and the low one you are leveling is, the easier it becomes to level up those lower ones. And honestly, many people tend to get burned out who want to level several classes parallel right off the bat because at some point it's all grind and no story, epicness or fun.

Adding another voice for Arcanist to Scholar or Summoner. You can decide at 30 after the first several dungeons if you want to specifically do healing or continue as support DPS. And Summoners, while they don't have party buffs, are the only dps that has raise which can help a lot especially in 4 person content.

I personally find it frustrating when I'm running as bard or machinist and that raise ability would have saved the party.
But sometimes I find myself wanting the bard songs when running as summoner, so they are both really useful.

Both classes change after 50 with bard losing some mobility and summoner having more than just DOTs.
They both also benefit from cross-class abilities, so really trying a bit of everything is helpful.

If I were you I'd go SCH until Heavensward then pick up AST and see if you can decide between the two. I love SCH and AST because there's so much to do and manage, it's never boring!

    Hello Reinara

I play with one of the best SCH healers on Sarg--Selawyn Kludra, she's also an awesome WHM and AST and BRD and... well she plays all jobs well. My SCH is 60 but I have a huge problem with the 'stance dance' (a good SCH in Cleric Stance can out DPS all but the best DPS) it is called the 'stance dance' because you have to switch between cleric stance OFF for healing and ON for putting up DOT's, something that is hard for me to do too (nervous fingers on a controller and can't use a mouse at all! LOL

Anyway, I'm on Sarg and if you need some HQ gear made or want to chat, look me up in game.
