    Please help cure my indecisiveness

    Hello,

I'm a pretty new player to ffxiv (just purchased the game two weeks ago), but I'm not new to mmo's as a whole.

I'm having tremendous difficulty choosing a class for myself. Generally, I go for the healer type because I love being helpful and I feel all important and stuff with mah big healz.

However... I've been leveling up conjurer and I'm so... So bored. I don't know why. I felt white Mage would be my thing but I find I'm not really enjoying the subclass very much.

Anyways, if anyone could give me advice, I'd appreciate it. All I know for sure is I want to be a support TYPE, not necessarily full healer. So bard isn't something I'd be objected to. I considered scholar but the idea of controlling a pet as well as my own character (DPSing and healing at the same time), scared the crud out of me. I'm on the PS4 and I'm still trying to get used to using a controller in an mmo.

P.S. I also love fast movements and keeping myself busy.

    Welcome!

Personally I think Archer (ARC) and it's Bard (BRD) Job upgrade would indeed be more for you - they attack fast, are the only class that can actually move while attacking (in fact, you will need to keep on the move to avoid attacks that will mostly likely kill you outright), and especially with the BRD soul crystal attached, have a lot of buffing or support abilities to help others in your party like Mage's Ballad which restores party members' MP. Their Artifact Armour (AF) also gets a very cool hat!

Really though, the way the Armoury System is set up, feel free to select any class you like at any time - you don't lose the exp you've already put into your first class when you switch to another (each class has their own exp and set of ability points) so the game actually encourages you to switch classes. So go ahead and try out different classes! You might find you enjoy a class you were not expecting!

Better off going MCH than BRD if you're looking for mobility and keeping busy. Both jobs lose a lot of mobility at higher levels with WM/GB, but MCH procs alleviate this a lot and they remain pretty busy and mobile compared.

I'd second this advice. If you're unsure which job(s) you'll want, try several of them. Or try all of them. You don't need to make one decision about what your character will be and then stick with it. I started Y'kayah off as ARC/BRD, thinking that would be his main job, but as I was leveling ROG/NIN, I decided I was enjoying that one more, so it sort of became my "main" job (as near as I have a "main"). It could well change again as I level up others. This game is very flexible about advancing multiple jobs. Might as well take advantage of that.

And if you decide to stick with healing, the game encourages you to try out multiple versions of it. For either Scholar or Astrologian, you're going to want CNJ leveled to 34 for Stoneskin, so you'll have time to check out White Mage for a bit. And for White Mage, you're going to want ACN leveled to 34 for Eye for an Eye, so you'll have a chance to try out Scholar. They also all give you at least some lower level experience as a damage dealing caster, leveling THM to 26 for swiftcast and (for 2 of the 3 healing jobs) ACN through the first 30 levels until SCH is unlockable.

Conjurer is indeed very boring to lvl, but I do love white mage. I'd say stick to it until you get the job to see how you feel. But I agree, this game was made for you to have any class you like so feel free to experiment. And for what you're saying you might enjoy bard as well

Thank you so much for all of your responses!

I'll try leveling archer up and getting bard as a profession. The idea of being a dps which still helps support, does intrigue me quite a bit.

As for astrologian, I would loooove to try it out. Honestly. This class looked really interesting to me due to their unique style. I've been steered away from them though since the current meta seems to frown on astrologians. Not that I give a hoot whether my class is popular or not, but I don't want to be denied from parties when people would rather take white Mage/scholar as their heals.

Again, thank you for your advice. I'll definitely try leveling up archer and see where that takes me

Except she wouldn't have access to MCH (and AST for that matter) straight off the bat, given they're locked behind story completion/access to Ishgard and owning the expansion pack (plus she said she doesn't want a class with a pet - which kind of rules MCH with it's turret out). For a new player though early on ARC would definitely be a good fit as it's a class players can start the game with or switch to early.

thank you for being so thoughtful as to what you think I'd prefer playing.

The thought of having a pet does scare me, but the reason is I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to utilize the profession to its full potential, due to my noobiness with using the controller right now. Maybe in the future when I feel more comfortable with the controller, I'll be able to give it a shot and not murder the profession >_<

Don't worry about feeling off with the controller. The healing pets are okay using their own AI, so you could leave them be while you are learning. Once you figure out your own attacks and skills you can concentrate on using your pet. (I mean I certainly wouldn't leave them with their own AI in say, a raid, but in dungeon and normal trials, it's fine.)

And you shouldn't be denied from a party if you choose to be AST. They ARE underrated at the moment but I've never seen someone outright kicked from a group simply because of their job. I would recommend getting CNJ/WHM to level 34 since you'll be able to use Stoneskin and crossclass it to AST and SCH if you choose.

    Have fun!
