An alternative resource to gathering materials gained through monsters, mainly. As others in the thread stated you can get said items through retainers and normally farming enemies which can already be said of all the other DoL classes. This would give players a little more of a proactive choice when it comes to gathering materials aside from relying on RNG or waiting for a specified amount of time![]()
A sound idea, but it seems quite redundant and if it's really easier to gather those materials, then it would make other related classes pointless.
It's not necessarily "easier"; right now you have two options if you want hides: farm monster kills, which works but is heavily reliant on RNG, and retainers, which you can only set them after one material with limited results each hour, and it costs 1 venture. Having a gathering class with a focus on gathering from monsters would make life easier in that regard.
The RNG for mob drops is pretty fair and you could get a lot more materials from mob farming for an hour than waiting for a retainer to only get you a handful.
I wouldn't argue with you there; of the two existing ways to gather materials, one is clearly more efficient. However, gathering isn't the only way to obtain some of materials that the other three gathering classes offer, and retainers can also go gather materials that the other gathering classes offer. I would just like a class that allows me to gather hides and et cetera off of animals without having to go on a mass murdering spree off of mobs that only respawn so quickly.
+1 we need more gathering classes shepard or archaeologist would be welcome in ff14 :3
There are some items that only drop one at a time. Like a few weeks ago I had a meltdown that I could only gather one Hippogryph Sinew at a time through killing, yet my retainer can get 7 in an hour. I could get more of them through an hour, but those monsters rarely drop them for me. Shepard wasn't actually a class that was mentioned in the game in 1.0. In one of the areas of Coerthas, there was a building that had the Shepard emblem on it with a flag. It was never implemented.
A DoL class that have increased drop chance if killing an animal enemy. The devs can call it Hunter.
And, of course, decreasing the dropchances on all battle classes
I have been talking about this type of new DoL since the beginning of the game. However, I have been calling Native or Wanderer.
It would be a DoL or even a Melee DPS gatherer which is trained by the Beast Tribes and various NPC races (Goblins, Poachers, etc.) that are out on the map.
This would be a really awesome class/job that could be truly setup for skill trees over what we currently have.
