Something I've noticed a lot lately, In duties and while checking people out when running around (I often examine peoples glamours and such), I've noticed one thing... A lot of melee dps wearing a fending ring, or casters wearing healing rings and healers wearing casting rings.

If you're one of these people, let me tell you it doesn't help you. It actually takes away from what you could be doing. Your Main stat (DEX, MIND, STR, INT) is what gives you the most damage or healing potency besides Weapon Damage. Based on stat weights, secondary stats like crit and skill speed weigh in at only a fraction of what the main stat does. Take this Stat weight chart for MNK for example, thanks to Dervy and widely accepted by the community:

Stat Weights

WD: 10.714
STR: 1.000
DET: 0.139
CRT: 0.167
SS: 0.116

See how much more STR weighs vs. even Det or Crit? You would need 7 Det just to equal what 1 point of STR gives, so say an i180 ring gives you 36 STR, you'd need a ring with around 250 DET just to equal that little amount of STR . So that means that wearing a 180 law ring will give you significantly higher damage then that i200 fending ring you're wearing. The same can be said for any case of wearing an accesory that doesnt have your main stat on it.

Obviously the only exception to this is Tanks slotting STR accesories because they have hit Vit Caps for fights.

The point is, you shouldn't wear items just to boost your ilvl or slot fending accessories because you have a hard time surviving something. If you can't survive fights because your ilvl is too low or you can't dodge mechanics, then there are other more beneficial things to work on like learning fights and getting some relevant gear.
