    Retainer max level...?

Any chance we can get this removed, I just dont see a point to it. I chose ninja as one of my retainers classes because I had ninja gear going unused and I really don't plan to level it cause its not my cup of tea after having tried it. Infact I chose it cause it has some cool glams that I wanted to put on my retainer... Cant go any higher than what its at unless I level ninja now.

Did not know about this max level till after but I don't really remember reading it anywhere although I'm guessing I just missed it.

Seriously though, whats the point of it? I just want my retainer to be a ninja why does it matter what I leveled, and the gear I planed to give her... I obviously cant now and have to start over on a different class...

What level did you get to? It doesn't really get slow until the last 15-20 levels or so.
And I'm pretty sure they inform you of the restriction when you choose the retainer's class.

The restriction is in place mostly so that people won't benefit from something like mining or battle retainers acquiring high level loot if they aren't high enough level to get said loot on their actual class. I'll agree that, since there is no distinction between battle retainers, the restriction is a little strange among them. However, most players use their main class's old gear as a hand-me-down to their retainer to keep the retainer's ilevel as high as possible, so it helps to have your battle retainer the same class as your main.

Well I can see the intention of preventing it from obtaining high level things when you can't yourself but honestly if you have 1 dps class leveled to 60 then you can get the same things that the others can, even the gear. Just can't wear it.

Maybe as long as you have a dps 60 you could do any of the dps, a tank 60 you can do any of the tanks. a gatherer 60 any of the gatherers etc?

I dont like this restriction though, I have gear for ninja even though I didn't level it. Was saving it for a retainer cause I like how it looked.

For the combat classes, I sort of agree, because there's literally no difference in what they can do. For the gathering classes, no, the restriction actually makes sense there (you shouldn't be able to get basically free gathering stuff if you don't have the appropriate class leveled).

About the only reason I could see the restriction for battle classes still making sense would be if, at some point in the future, we can take along our retainers as companions, much like our trusty chocobo.

Oh, and you can always reset your retainer's class. It'll take a bit for them to level back to where they were (depending on how high you have your NIN), but it'll probably be less effort than to level a class you don't want to play.

Yeah I really don't want to but if this is what SE intended then I guess I will. It will be a shame since I really wanted to put some cool looking ninja gear on my retainer.

    Time for a reset

I think the logic is, you're probably not going to have any good level 60 gear for Rogue if you yourself are not levelling it up.
This is why I switched my Gladiator to a Marauder, only because Warrior will be my main for as long as I can see, and it'll be the first to level up.

It is entirely possible they intended for there to be differences between the different combat classes when they made the system, and perhaps still want to do something with it, which means they need to keep the restriction in place at least until they say, "Eh, F' it."

I always thought it rather defeats the purpose of being able to select your retainers class if it has to be one you have yourself. You can't even level your retainers beyond the level you have for that particular class.

If someone wants to level their retainer as a miner to avoid a bit of grunt work harvesting ore, where's the harm? Similarly, if someone chooses to level a Black Mage retainer when their only job is Paladin, why should SE care? It's not like it suddenly renders markets obsolete. Despite their best efforts, retainers still only farm at a snails pace compared to players.

All of my retainers are Rogues because this annoyed me in the beginning of HW. I even have a uniform for them. :3
