How Many Times Can You Take You Console With You Until...

Since getting the game, I have taken my console (PS4) with me when visiting friends on a couple of occasions. When doing this, I am forced to change my password at the login screen because the game server doesn't recognize the internet connection that is at my friends house.

I will be going away for a weekend soon and want to take my console with me to play the game at my friends house again. I am worried that if I do this to many times, I may get locked out of my account. Is there a limit that you can take your console and use it elsewhere other than your own connection before you get your account locked out. Or can it be locked out?

Do you have a smart phone? If so get the one time password app for the game. It removes the need to confirm secure connections.

There is no limit that i'm aware of, my son used to love turning my router off and on every day. This caused the "change password prompt" to happen everyday, must of done it over 100 times :3

It's not 'not recognizing the internet connection' actually, but the IP address of that location (which naturally changes when you try to access the game from a different location), and thus the system thinks it's a fraudulent access and locks the account accordingly. It will also do this if your modem/router is shutdown for an extended period/is replaced or your ISP does maintenance and reassigns you a new IP address.

There sadly isn't any way around this other than either, accepting that and changing your password accordingly every time it occurs, or, invest in a Square Enix Security Token or Software Token (the later is the smartphone app Corfish mentioned).

If you don't have a smartphone, a Security Token does the same thing and randomly generates a one-time password you will have to enter on the login screen every time you login - the drawback is this is a physical token that has to be purchased from the SE website and then registered to your account before you can use it (the physical Collector's Edition for ARR included a security token as a bonus incidentally). The place to purchase a Square Enix Security Token can be found here.

And the Security Token app for iOS and Android is free. You just need to link the confirmation code to your SE account. When you do that, MAKE SURE to save that code so you can unregister the token if something goes wrong. I'd take a picture of the code and save it. I did that on my iPhone as a screenshot and saved it to an iCloud folder.

the only problem with the physical security token is that the last time I checked they do not come with an "unregister" code the way that the software tokens do. Thus if your physical security token runs out of battery life or gets damaged in some way, then you have to jump through lots of red tape in order to be able to access your account again, unfortunately.

What this means is that the Software Token on the iOS or Android are generally speaking going to be the superior options for securing your account.

My wife has her physical token from when she played XI. She says she got it when they were first introduced. It's still going strong.
