Bard Question - When to use Straighter Shot Proc?

    Hey all,

I've just been messing around with the Bard for awhile and came across the question of when is it the best time to use straighter shot proc?

Right now, I am saving Straighter Shot Proc for these situations:
    1) When Empyreal Arrow is about to come off cooldown.
    2) When two oGCD's are about to come off cooldown.

    Why?
Because of the 2.5ish downtime after a straighter shot proc. So, Is it worth it to use SS Proc right away? Or to simply save it to prevent DPS loss?

Straighter shot makes your next straight shot do critical damage.

i'm not sure why you would save it unless your thinking the straighter shot proc will crit empy arrow? it won't.

As for the ogcds it's usually not worth delaying a gcd for an ogcd ability. that's my experience anyway.

My question is, should I be saving my proc? Or should I be using it right away as soon as it pops? It's really been bugging me lately.
It depends. If you get a proc near the end of Straight Shot duration, wait a little to use it and renew Straight Shot. If not, use it instead of a Heavy Shot, since a crit Straight Shot will hit for more than a non-crit Heavy Shot. In any other cases, when you have ogcds to use and other things, save it for when you need to run or dodge mechanics, so you can keep your dps high.

The reason I am asking about saving Straight Shot Proc is due to the 2/2.5 downtime because it is an instant-cast skill versus a WM-Heavy Shot which has 1.5 cast time. I'm just wondering if anyone out there has proved that using SS Proc right away is better than saving the proc for double oGCD usage.

Heavy Shot may have a 1.5s cast time but you still impose a 2-2.5s GCD.

    Cast time =/= GCD time.

You'll use the same amount of time using just Heavy Shot.

Save the crit shot proc for empyreal arrow, since you'll be able to use it without cutting into your gcd like normal.

When to use Straighter Shot Procs was actually what got me so interested in BRD skill mechanics for 3.0.

Keep in mind while you are gearing that Skill Speed increases the # of Heavy Shots you will do on single target in between re-applying your Dots. Skill Speed also decreases the recast on Empyreal Arrow.

Increased # of HS = higher probability of SS Procs + Reduced EA Recast = More EA weaving for free GCD's (dat TP though)

I use straighter shots on cue regardless of situation. If there are two relevant cds (usually one being bloodletter), I'll use those. Otherwise, I'll prioritize using emp arrow after it, or use repelling shot and nothing else.

It allows you to use empyreal arrow without having an overlap through the gcd. Hard casting a weapon skill then empyreal arrow is roughly 2.7-3 seconds out of your 2.5 gcd
