RP anywhere besides Balmung?

Hello,

From what I know and have heard the "unofficial" RP server is Balmung. However I was wondering if there are any other servers anyone might know of that also have an RP community big or small.

I'm taking a break from the game right now, but when I return I'd like to get back into RP. I used to RP on WoW, but I enjoy Final Fantasy XIV more and the Final Fantasy series as a whole.

Gilgamesh I've heard also has a fairly active RP community, but from what I understand it is nowhere near as large or devoted as Balmung. Balmung is definitely the place for RP as you don't even have to look for to join in role-playing, you'll easily find someone wanting to RP with you.

Sounds promising, but one reason I ask is I've heard mixed reviews about Balmungs server, like that it has a lot of drama. I know I'm going off what I heard so if anyone can correct that I would appreciate it.

I wont lie to you man, there is drama here but that goes hand and hand with rpers. Make an alt and look about. You can avoid most drama by avoiding giant fcs and the sewer that is the rpc cliques. Most here are nice, just avoid the drama queens and youll have fun.

Indeed it does, never figured out why though. on WoW I left for a couple of months and when I did I informed them that I had no time to play because of some family stuff that needed my attention, when I came back I was thoroughly ignored, like I was some how in the wrong for taking time off? I've considered making an alt there, but wasn't sure of where to go. Where are the hotspots? Limsa, Ul'Dah, dumb forest city that I hate? Mor Dhona?

Keep in mind though that making an alt on Balmung is deemed to be impossible by most people by now, unless you perfectly time it with servers going back online after a maintenance.

I just found this out for myself. Is after maitenance the only time someone can get in?

Brief windows are open for a few minutes after the Daily "System Self Check" but that check doesn't actually occure on a set schedule so it's pure luck on that one.

A lot of rp fc's on Gilgamesh pulled a max exodus about six months to a year ago. Last I knew, most rp was done in the housing wards now.

As for why? Partly due to server wide drama and partly because when rper's designated Gilgamesh as the secondary rp server we didn't know one of the major forums decided to go there as well. Can't remember if it was Reddit, 4chan, or Blue Gartr but it ended up with rpers getting trolled any time they dared to be in public. So it was just easier for a lot of the rp fc's (my old one included) to make the jump to Balmung where we'd be in the majority.

If you do manage to make it on Balmung, explore several different fc's before deciding what one to stick with. And Erik tends to be right, smaller FC's tend to be better. For more than just drama reasons. It's easier to make a better story and make sure everyone's story fits in with lore.

Larger fc's are more likely to have that one person who has to be Louisouix's half miqo'te, half vampire, half voidsent, half elezen daughter running about solving everyone's problems (or causing more) with a wave of a finger.

Role-players are prone to drama no matter where you choose to settle. With that in mind it makes sense to go to Balmung since the bigger pool of role-players means that you'll always be able to find a new group of like-minded individuals to interact with. If you go to a small community then any drama will quite easily lead you to being excluded from what few role-players there are present - especially if they're a tight knit group.
