Check out the high resolution screen shot found at the gallery at this page. If you look at their knee joints (and their unnaturally shaped eyes) you can see these fellows are mechanical in nature. I think that's further evidence toward Mammets or at least a reimagining of Final Fantasy Dwarves.

Hmm i'm not entirely sure. They don't look like the mammets currently in the game to me though, especially the eyes and the much thicker arms. I guess we have to wait till the 23rd to find out what they are. The image on the left with the viking hat really hit my nostalgia though Even if I'm wrong.
