Botting is getting worse.

I was attempting to do a bit of crystal grinding for the new relic quest line and low and behold in western highlands I noticed 6 people out of 10 grinding fates all moving once more in a conga line to avoid every aoe and in all synchronized attack would target the same mob and begin attacking at the exact same time.

These are not RMT bots but normal players who pay for a 8 dollar program to be able to cheat their way through relic after relic, job after job to 60 and let the bot automate dps rotations. If SE is going to let these people who have been botting for years after I report along with countless others continue to bot hundreds of millions of gil and power game every aspect of the game in the above mentioned examples why not just go on and legalize botting and certain third party programs. Double standard needs to end against those who play the game legit and those who are allowed to get away with blatant cheating.

I use to strongly go around trying to find and report cheaters but after two years of being ridiculed for attempting to clean our game of trash it makes no difference now. Making botting legal would itleast give everyone the same playing field for anything like competing for housing, raid spots and gearing up for statics. Just seeing 5-6 bots in one centralized spot is very disheartening and makes me wonder why should I be the sap and grind my relic legit when I see these 6 people will finish theirs long before I even get my 3rd or 4th crystal.

I couldn't honestly care less about people botting as it doesn't affect me. RMT spams however can go away with the quickness. Tired of those.

But botting does affect you. It screws with prices on your server, prevents people from actually making a decent amount of gil who legit do trade skills from those who let the game do it for them. It gives people an edge who cheat with the bot who can intelligently dps on the level of possibly the highest end of players. Lets people cheat to earn gil to buy housing illegally through aquired gil and puts a larger strain on the server from an influx of gil that would not exsist if not for hundreds and hundreds of people who bot 24/7 and can earn 5-6 million gil a night through materia binding. That is just the tip of the ice berg of how badly it affects you if you have any interest in any of these areas.

Two well known botters on my server each own multiple houses. That alone should be enough to get people to want to do something about this silliness that MMO's having a crap ton of cheaters that are not even given a token ban.

I agree the "it doesnt bother me, let em do what they want" really doesn't help. I made the same argument myself but seeing people bot to 60 and still playing today, makes me wonder why I waste hours of my day grinding to level when I can actually go sleep and let a program do it for me. I admit reporting for harasment seems to get an actual response from a GM, like an actual whisper, might be what is needed for the botters. I dunno though.

It does not help that bots can now fly in the fly zones which makes it harder to track them down unlike the past they would grind from 50-60 in North Thanalan.

I agree that botting is problematic for all the reasons you've stated, but SE will never give the issue the attention it deserves for two reasons. The first is that they (the XIV division or whatever) likely don't have the resources to strictly enforce this. Maybe they ban someone once in a while, but they don't have the staff for people to go around banning bots 24/7. The second is that they're still making money off of botters. Those people are paying for accounts and in some cases extras like retainers.

Until tons of people start quitting in protest or SE's board of directors decides to properly staff and fund their mmo division, nothing will ever be done about botters.

Read my last post. I did reference it and I have reported hundreds of bots on my server during those days. Since most bots now support flying it is not all bunched up in one zone anymore. My point is they should just make it legal so that everyone can have the same advantage or do something and ban these bots or at minimum break the bot program. If Trion with rift could manage to break the bot from the most popular bot that plague wow in 6 months then why can other games do the same? Rift managed to break the bot so many times the bot maker stopped supporting it within a few months. If they want to go by the point of making money off botters then let everyone bot and problem solved.

I don't need to tell you that there is no chance that they'll make it legal (I'm not sure that a botting program even exists for the console players). I'm guessing that it's not critical enough for them to throw the development staff needed at the problem just yet.

I don't use bots but everyone pay for the game. So everyone can do what they want. We need to learn how to take care of our lives and don't interfere to the other ones lives.
