Compromise: Just Charge $5 For Now. Once 2.0 is Out, Then Charge $12

I plan to pay the full price but I do think half price would be a good gesture on SE's behalf and would also entice players to stick around and support the game.

I won't be surprised if SE don't make an announcement in the next few weeks to say the subscription will be half price.

I did also think that maybe people will complain when they later increase the price to full price, but as long as SE are 100% clear about the game being at half price then people can't really complain.

Well he's actually quite right. Charging less now means charging more later = more complaints later on. Better to announce a good & bad news all together (2.0 coming + resume billing) I believe.

And instead of charging half price for a full year, I would rather SE start charging full price after 1.21 or something.

pc search and direct buying in 1.20 alone worth my money to me. I'd be happy if they charge half price, but i'm willing to pay full price too

Also there has already been way to much confusion around this game. Square need to be clear and consistent with their choices. Creating more confusion around the release of 2.0 isn't going to help anyone.

I'd drop the ~£5 a month easy. its ~50% done so I would pay 1/2 a sub.

Full price, well as I've said before i'd likely just sub up the week of a patch to see the content and Story.
With Zelda and Skyrim out I have more then enough to keep my busy till a more interesting patch like 1.21.
Past 1.23 I might stay subbed, but for me it doesn't seem looking at the road map that until then the game looks like a finished game, an at that point i would be willing to pay full.

But whatever SE do i'll get to see the content, be it every month till 2.0 or just a few..

go to $5 then charge $1 for extra retainers and $1 for 50 item slots. Your casuals will be happy and the Hardcore will likely spend 9-10+$ anyway for extra space/retainers.

Totally agree with the OP. Paying 5-6€ would guarantee that almost everyone stays in. I am sure the total revenue would be greater if they do so.... gonna attract even more people.

itl be on par with new releases this year(if there really were any) which is about right considering they had to reprgram most of the basics of the game to get where they are now

no one is comparing it to other games that have been out as their comparison to why they are or are not enjoying the game


other games DO NOT dictate wether or not you can enjoy this one(and if you enjoy it, you do, and youll probly want to play, which is why youll be willing to pay)

You and I seem to be on the same wavelength on this topic.

First with the 50% statement still being wrongly kicked around. Yoshida's clarified that statement at least twice now that I've seen, and he's further explained that the 50% statement was made back before 1.18, referring to the state of the game back then.

He's now saying that with 1.18/1.19 and, concluding with 1.20, he feels FFXIV will be where it should be as a launch-worthy MMORPG. In other words. "100% complete", or very close to it.

The people clinging to "50% complete!" are living in the past.

I've seen it. I'm sure you've seen it. I'm sure many of the people still spouting out the "50% Finished!!! Won't pay!!!" have seen it, too. But that's not going to stop them. Why? Because, I suspect, the idea of paying half or paying nothing at all has nothing to do with the state of the game. I suspect it has everything to do with them simply wanting to play for free.

If they acknowledge and accept that the "50% complete" statement holds no water, then they have to either drop the crusade to stop or reduce sub fees... or they have to find some other reason that actually makes sense. Apparently, for a number of them, it's far easier to shut their ears and eyes to all contradicting information and continue the "50% Complete!!!" argument as though those clarifications and further statements were never made. It's pure 100% intellectual dishonesty and willful ignorance at work.

As for other games having an effect on people playing or not playing this. Again, I agree, that's such a flawed concept. It's a textbook false dichotomy. The idea that "Oh, if people aren't playing this, they're going to be playing ToR" or "They're going to be playing GW2". Not everyone is interested in ToR or GW2. There are people who aren't even playing FFXIV who aren't interested in GW2 or ToR. There are dozens of MMORPGs out there now, and there are people playing all of them... Not all of those people are "biding their time 'til ToR or GW2 comes out".

Yet, a lot of people seem to think that every new MMO coming out is somehow the game that "everyone's waiting to play", and when it releases whatever MMO they happen to be addressing is going to be in big trouble and is going to empty out. Yet, no matter how many new MMOs come out, and no matter how many times it's said... It never happens. But, still.. they go on making the statements anyway.... now it's with ToR. Next it'll be with GW2... After that it'll be whatever other new highly anticipated MMO is coming out...

People just seem to be stuck in this binary, "one or the other" mindset and can't understand or accept that there is no "one or the other". There's a massive grey area in there.

no its 50%, he said it not long ago, and its clear he means that because according to yoshi, Ver 2.0 is where he thinks is worthy to compete with other MMOs.

as for the subject, i already made a post about paying 50% for 50% of the game a while ago. I wouldnt mind paying like 5$, just seeing that over the 13$ changes so many peoples minds, including mine which i was hesitating for paying full. Offer it for 5 bucks and people go "its 5$, thats nothing". increase it to 13 and people think again. It might not be a ton more, but enough to stop people from playing for an entire year.
