Compromise: Just Charge $5 For Now. Once 2.0 is Out, Then Charge $12

I'm also OK paying but just like Renta I have to think hard $24 (me & wife) for this game... I'm OK with it but I just have this weird feeling about it personally lol. I love FF series and I like FFXIV and the I really like the new dev team and their efforts but when it comes to pay for the current game? specially full price... I have to think... really want to support the dev team so if I'm paying monthly fee it's for them and I want to see where this game is heading from game programmers point of view.

Only thing is I already have 3 friends I know that said NO to the payment stuff and pretty sure there will be more once the payment starts and I will start seeing fewer players because of the fee.

Now if the fee is say $5-7 then maybe I can see them paying. If you convert the $12/month into hours and all that sure it's cheap but you still have to think hard lol.

The real question is whether or not they'd get twice as many subscriptions just for charging half as much. Of course more of us would pay if it were lower, but unless the retention ratio scales with the price it's a worthless move to SE.

Very well said and thought out Renta, I think the half price proposal is a fair trade off.

I Agree, I feel... excited and scared about everything coming, it feels like everything I want, and yet too much change. Only time will tell I guess.

I'd pay full price. I personally think the game is 25% right now not 50%, but I like the direction things have gone in so far. XIV v2 seems like good roadmap if they can actually pull off some of the radical stuff like worldless servers without my having to have XX at the start of my name because someone else has that name on another server.

A consideration for those who do not want to pay 14 a week, there is a solution to get the game at half price: consider the roadmap where a patch is due every two months; whilst waiting for 2.0 you could simply pay for one month and then cancel straight away. This will allow you to play the new content and do all those 100 leves you gathered for the month you were off as well as allowing you to see the game change gradually.

As it seams that most people do not currently like the game in its current state but some say they would pay half price, why not just pay half the time?

I've said it before - I'll say it again - I would definitely continue my sub if I got a combined rate discount for subbing to XI as well. If instead they only charged $5-$7 for XIV - I would certainly retain my sub. I just don't play enough to justify paying 12 bucks, especially when I am already paying that for XI (and I am pretty sure all THAT sub money is paying for XIV)

Same. I'm still paying for the full price but I'd imagine a halved sub rate is most importantly good PR for the company. You'll not only have a higher sub retention rate, but you'll still have a decent chance of getting return players (or new players) if you reduce the sub rate down to something that's $7. Like I said before, word of mouth is the most important part of bringing XIV to an accepted status in the game industry, and having a good bang for buck sub deal until the full game is out IMO is a step in the right direction.

With everything aside... I do not think that even if FFXIV is theeeee most addicting godlike 11/10 #1 MMO on the market, not all 100% of the subscribers will switch from 50% pay to full pay at the time of 2.0. Even though, 2.0 will still bring in many new players.

You know, ill agree to this. I mean if you think about it its only fair.... they have half completed game (as stated by yoshi himself) But they need funding (which i dont entirely buy but ok thats fine) So half a sub a month is fair in my eyes.

Same. I'm unwilling to pay $12 but I'd pay $5-7 dollars and I'd like a cash shop that would do stuff like change hairstyles/haircolor etc... I'd definitely pay $1 for an extra retainer ><;
