I get your point, and I understand that a mob that's casting doesn't do anything else until the cast stops. However, I can't always guarantee that they're all going to cast at the same time. Either way, I'm sure that the group will survive if I dodge an aoe and move the non casting mobs for 2.5 seconds or however long the cast for the thing I'm trying to avoid is

Ultimately, this is why I much prefer SMN and don't play MNK anymore, which I originally intended to play for the single-target DPS. The bad tanks were one thing, but no tank can control every situation just by virtue of the way the game is set up. It bothered me so much that I just had to stop playing MNK entirely.

My first tank just hit 58 tonight, and it's just a game of trying to get back into your position after their 50th area attack so the mob doesn't turn at all for the melee.

So, I was in The Aery with a tank that was 59, and HE DID THE EXACT THING: He kept moving even when there weren't any AoEs. Just what is up with that? Heck, he even didn't remember how to fight Nidhogg, which he should know how to do it anyway. It really screwed up my Aeolian Edge combos as well as the ones for Armor Crush and Trick Attack. It's so annoying.

The larger the boss is, as long as the melee are staying inside of the hitbox for quicker angular adjustment, the less effect you're going to have, actually. And some AoEs, like that one, can really sting. You're going to hurt raid (via healer) dps or survivability more by not dodging, even with two melee.

When it's just a no-debuff tenth of your health or weaker hit though, and HoTs would otherwise heal you, soak all you want. Just know that the melee isn't your only concern, even as important as s/he is.

Before Heavensward I use to main Dragoon. I played that class waaaaaaaaaaayyyy before they implemented the positional buffs, right when they where the worse DPS to have.

Basically, before they were buffed, DRGs HAD to hit HT on the flank or else they wouldn't get the HT buff, they HAD to hit behind or else they wouldn't be able to combo into and use any debuffs or DoTs.

Experiencing DRG at it's weakest first hand, and having positionals be so important at that time made me a better Tank in considering what positions the adds should be and to minimize movement unless necessary.

Though there was this one time I ran a dunjin and the monk early pulled the boss before I was ready. Instead of waiting outside to have everyone die like a brat, I just spun the boss around to ruin his positionals.

Biggest example Cetus in void ark (first boss) lol as any positional dps class it's already bad enough the boss moves a lot but the tanks constantly spin the thing around and I just don't get that...and I've always got a "get gud" response so I'm more keen on playing ranged or caster dps these days

As a sch in training, if you are a tank who does this, please know that I am trying to place my fairy so you and the dps will be in range for her to cast and also hit everyone with aoe. This takes me a few precious seconds that you will not be getting healed, and if you pull big, it just might make the difference between success and a dirt nap. Only move when mechanics force you to do so.
