My concerns about a "worldless model" what are yours?

I have played FF11, WoW for quite a while and I see the benefits and cons of each game. And as we all know, nothing in this world is perfect. Some things will please others and piss others as well.

That being said, I would like to share with you my "concerns" about the "Worldless" system that they plan to implement.

In FF11, we all knew how it worked. Sure, there was drama, but we knew who was good, who was bad, etc etc. The community was close and well it was what it was.

In WoW with the dungeon finder, it became much faster and easier to do the dungeons, howerver this brought some inconveniences that I personally dont like such as:

    1. The is a no sense of community since you just que, you group you get it done and it is over. This most of the time prompts to people in that group not being patient, leaving after 1 or 2 wipes and even people just getting and item that they want and leaving.

    2. You dont get time to enjoy or to "plan" since you dont know who you will endup with, you end up doing just the necessary bosses in order to finish the dungeon.

On the other side in FF11 sometimes you and to just idle there in Jeuno or Whitegate for hours just to find either a party or to be able to do something.

I really hope that SE can deliver something in-between. I really liked the tight community that 11 gave us, and I dont like the way WoW has been evolving.

What are you opinion or comments on this guys?

I didn't play WoW, but one possible middle-ground would be to invite some discussion among the party as it is being constructed by the Content Finder so people can plan and such. Another option would be to delay adding the Content Finder to new content.

Crap! I forgot to comment this on the other thread. I'll do it here. I think its a horrible Idea. I played wow and most often than not, youd get teamed with someone that griefed. But my concern with it really doesn't stop there because that can be somewhat reported. The major issue with me is immersion, how are you going to make any friends in the game, if you cant contact them because they are on another server? Its like slugging through content without getting to know anyone.

I mean don;t get me wrong... i really hate being a devils advocate on some of the 2.0 promises... but some things have already been tried... great in trying to get people to play with (for only one time, and thats if you dont get griefed), bad for trying to get a community together. Which.. is what yoshi is trying to do in another one of his points?

I have no concerns, loved the feature in WoW rarely came across players who were assholes, as long as SE provide a vote out system where the majority have to agree to kick someone there is no issue when someone acts like a cock.

I really don't like the queuing aspect of it. I'd honestly prefer having to suffer through some idle time if the other option is just popping into a virtual waiting room and getting mached up with some randoms. It takes a lot of the RPGish feel out of it imo.

To your second point, I worry about the difficulty of a dungeon that is created with PUGs in mind. I think everyone knows that a PUG is generally far worse than an organized group of people who know each other and can plan ahead of time. I think if they're designing dungeons to be completed by randomly matched players there's going to be a limitation on how creative and difficult they can be. I really liked the aspect of having to lay out a somewhat complicated plan to complete some of the more difficult fights in XI.

It also does take some of the server identity and sense of community out of it, which I think can be an interesting aspect of MMOs.

Love it, happy to see they are adding it. It is a feature especially convenient to those who have little time and it isn't forced on anyone. I hope they add a feature where you can form groups with friends from other servers, too.

I think WoW's "dungeon finder" ends up feeling like a huge regression for the genre.

The entire purpose of UO and EQ was to create games where everyone played in a persistent world, together. We had games with lobbies that had you queue up for a single game with a relatively fixed objective and time period before we had MMORPGs. And that's exactly what a game that relies heavily on instances and matching people together to teleport them instantly feels like. They've gone and reverted back to multiplayer online RPGs, no longer are they "massively multiplayer" most of the time.

However, they can get some of the advantages without the disadvantages if they want to. If they don't just copy WoW completely, we could instead have a sort of cross-server search function where you can browse people's search comments from other worlds and invite them to do something. Not instantly teleporting everyone to the location for free would help too; require everyone be at the entrance to enter the instance just like normal.

LOL I love these people that want to take the convenience out of a feature added purposely for convenience. /sigh
