Some aspects of the game need to be reworked this will take time to get everything balanced, they are also redesigning zones this will also take time, then they have to have a lot of content ready for PS3 release. With the content side of things I believe they are holding back on us. They will only give us the bare minimum needed to keep us along for the ride, they will be holding back as much as possible for the PS3 release. Also with things being reworked they will have to make sure that the planned content is will fit in.

I think when SE released they didn't realise how much they would have to do to the core of the game to get back on track that is why they gave themselves 6 months to fix it before the PS3 release in March. The game is soft capped at R50 that much is obvious it is going to cap way higher than that, there are also places within zones that you can not access as we are locked out of them, even cities (Ishgard)and towns (Hamlets)have had all content removed, even in the current cities there are parts you can not access, landmarks that serve no purpose, all we are left with is an empty shell, why?

They can not spend 5 years or so in development and this be all they have to show for it they are holding stuff back is the only answer I can see. It does make sense, they knew they were going to have problems at release with the feedback from the beta and knew that the media coverage would be bad, but they needed to fix the underlying issues with the game and ran out of time. So they patched it as best they could for release, locked content to save for the PS3 release and the big relaunch and hoped that we would have enough to keep us occupied while they fix the game.

When they launch on PS3 it will be billed as a huge rebirth of the game in order to get attention drawn back to it and the negative press turned around. If they can launch and say "look we have redone the battle system, added traditional classes, added new zone's, chocobo's, airships, companies, NM's, quests, story missions and new UI and so on it will create huge attention for the game and they hope it will drawn in a load of new players and bring back old ones.

So for now we will just have to sit tight until they believe they have the mechanics of the game fixed, they will add a few bit's of content here and there but they will save the great stuff for PS3 launch.
