"UI only" application for crafting and MW managing on smart phones

Just came back from a long wait at the hospital and saw all those young and older people chatting and playing on their phones. I thought I could very well use this time to do some boring stuff in game that does not require heavy graphical processing.

Now, I have zero skills in informatics, but would it be possible to create an application, which would basically consist of a simplified, "UI only" FFXIV, that allows crafting and MW management (without the character associated animations) from a smart phone in the bus or subway, or from a computer at school or work that would not require to install the whole game?


I guess we would have to make sure before leaving home that we have all the required items on our character, and that we place it in the proper ward, for example.

Would people like/use this?

Hopefully this is in the cards, I know WoW has something similar with the AH, Yoshi did say that his 400+ cell xcell sheet had something about smartphone applications :P

Yes the WoW app you have to pay for. I dunno if its part of the Sub. I would pay a feww more bucks for Cell phone apps. Like mab seeing on my phone what is said in my LS? or Free Company? that would be cool to send and receive messages in game to my cell phone lol.

I don't even -use- a smartphone and I like this idea a lot.

They did mention in an interview that one of the things they're doing with the new client and server structure and such in 2.0 is putting in framework for things they don't have any plans for yet but might want to implement later. One of the specific examples he gives is interfacing with smartphones.

I have a smartphone myself and though I haven't played WoW since long before that feature was added, it's something I'd be interested in. I think market wards would be the easiest and most useful to add, since I might find something I need while I'm away from home and don't want to miss it. You could also be able to restock your retainers' bazaars if things are selling. Additionally, I'd love to see something where I could access my LS/Company chat as well as in-game mail, to be able to help people out and set up events even when I can't play the game right now.

I'm not so sure about crafting because that seems a little too much like "playing the actual game" to me, but then I can't really come up with any good reasons why you couldn't do it.

I totally do NOT want access to the game from a smartphone, unless it was the entire game.

There are apps to control your pc from your phone though. However, you do get a horrible FPS rate on your phone

Rather like the idea of being able to craft on your smartphone somehow only depends on how they could implement it a mini version game of ffxiv craft guild that transfer experience to your main character account maybe :P
