Buffing VIT Nerfing STR - Some simple math...

    Full 210 DRK Xaela build.

The harder they nerf STR/buff VIT, the higher our AP will stay. Just food for thought for all those people hoping it'll be 50/50 so they can keep their slaying accessories. This also proves that even at the worst possible conversion rate our AP will only be about 100 points below a full STR tank now and roughly 200 points above a current full VIT build.

(FYI, full STR tank here, completely unbothered by this IMO very much needed change...)

    50/50 VIT:STR = AP

    35 VIT 100% Fending - (1108VIT*0.5) + (775STR*0.5) = 941.5AP

    554 + 387.5

    35 STR 100% Slaying - (828VIT*0.5) + (1045STR*0.5) = 936.5AP

    414 + 522.5

    60/40 VIT:STR = AP

    35 VIT 100% Fending - (1108VIT*0.6) + (775STR*0.4) = 974.8AP

    664.8 + 310

    35 STR 100% Slaying - (828VIT*0.6) + (1045STR*0.4) = 914.8AP

    496.8 + 418

    70/30 VIT:STR = AP

    35 VIT 100% Fending - (1108VIT*0.7) + (775STR*0.3) = 1008.1AP

    775.6 + 232.5

    35 STR 100% Slaying - (828VIT*0.7) + (1045STR*0.3) = 893.1AP

    579.6 + 313.5

Is there any reason that the ratios for VIT and STR have to add up to 1? Couldn't they do something like VIT*0.7 and STR*0.1 if they wanted to?

I guess they could. Those are the most common ratios I've been seeing. And i didn't want to incur the wrath of my fellow STR tanks by implying that our attack power might end up being less than 100% of a given value

As long as we end with the same attack power, it won't matter much, right.

Besides, since attack power is displayed on our character, it will be very easy to find the actual impact of both stats right away.

There's absolutely no point SE doing that, as you can just convert those values to equal 1 and do the math that way, then rescale it down if need be.

    (0.7*1.25) + (0.1*1.25) = 1

So 0.7:0.1 is exactly the same as 0.875:1.25

SE have usually taken the most simplistic approach to their formulas. It's just, because everything is a multiplier and has a base value, it's harder to convert linear regressions into direct formulas. SE are very good at hiding the real numbers.

No there isn't. In fact, it's a really bad reasonning as we have to keep a similar attack power as what we have now (unless they nerf it, but speculating on a nerf would strech out the early guesses way too much)

Someone came up with a 0.3:0.5 ratio for STR:VIT which was keeping a constant damage ration when compared to monk's attack power on nearly all ilevel tiers.

I personally went with a 0.42:0.62 ratio but my calculations were lacking in-depth comparison and the tank attack power was in result growing too fast when compared to the monk.

The only thing we know for sure is that VIT will have more power than STR.

SE never released any numbers. xD We'll have to figure them out the same way we figured out all of the other numbers.

a fix could be having a stat affect parry strengh just like the shields have their block rate AND strengh. But SE removed that, so that would mean creating yet an other stat people wouldn't want to have anyway because lolRNG. meh :/

While true on a pure math point of view, this isn't how you should see it in this case.

a 0.7:0.1 ratio would actually be a 0.7:0.1:0.2 ratio for VIT:STR:nothing to account for the fact that the sum of VIT + STR far surpasses our current STR count

If you have 1k VIT and 1K Strength 3.1, that would equal 1k AP.

If you have it so you have a ratio of 0.7:0.1:0.2, you'll end up with:

700 AP from VIT, 100 AP from strength, for 800 AP in total.

    But you then say:

So which is it? By those ratios, it's a direct nerf as tanks will be missing out on 200 AP, but you're stating they need to keep similar attack power values. aVIT + bSTR = 1 AP. From a coding stand point, it's the easiest way to handle this change without dramatically changing how AP is handled and causing more imbalances.

    I made some math here : http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...30#post3551830
(Sorry hard to quote multiple times on mobile :/)

Bear in mind that I failed to equilibrate the power increase with monk's one over further ilevel steps, but it can give a general idea

I'm waiting until we have actual numbers to make any judgement, tbh. :x

I'm fine with whatever though, at least we won't be competing for Slaying accessories while Fending hits the floor.

Oh, for sure, and this is total theorycraft. I thought I'd attempt to math out some of the most common predictions to mitigate some of the doom'n'gloom, though.
