I think we're pretty much saying the same thing. We just both hope it's done well.

And like I said, if they did it every other patch, then they might get to develop/continue some of the other things you mentioned

By definition, popular doesn't appeal to a "niche," though. At the very least it implies a plurality. If a plurality of people would play content, I think it's only fair that that's what gets focused on: economically you've got limited resources. You should try to make the most people happy with the time you have to dedicate to it.

I hope Scholasticate is not a pre-req. I've tried to do that quest line twice now, but zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I almost feel weird that this is the content for the patch I am most excited about ... almost.

There is so much yes to this. The scholasticate questline was too serious without any real action. Almost to the point where the investigation got boring and almost a waste of the warrior of light's time. At least in the Hildi series there was comic relief and a band of characters that were enjoyable. Its almost sad that the hildi side quest is the thing I am looking the most forward to in 3.2

Whether you enjoy it or not, it's pretty clear that the Scholisticate questline is SE's "long-runner" questline for this expansion. The fact that they're so vague about how Hildy is going to be making his return leads me to believe that he's either just going to be a cameo appearance in the Scholisticate questline, or he's going to get a one-and-done quest unrelated to the Scholisticate. I find it quite unlikely that he'll actually get a long-runner in the same vein as his ARR appearance, simply because it would be too much work to be developing two long-runners at once.

It's possible that Hildy may "take over" the Scholisticate questline and transform it into a zany romp, but honestly, if that happens I hope it's not because folks expressed their disapproval of the Scholisticate storyline and SE is switching rails to appeal to the masses. While I'll admit I enjoyed the Hildy story more than I'm enjoying the Scholisticate story, I DO still want to see where it goes, flaws and all...
