    Changing race (game watch interview)

GameWatch - Can you change the race?
YoshiP - I am still undecided on that. It is possible but it doesn’t feel right when a friend suddenly has race change over night. Maybe I shouldn’t allow that much. For example for Hair Style or Color, Eye color, Skin Color those I believe are ok to be customized.

does this also include players from the current version?

The whole one time race change thing was mentioned waaaaaay back, and only once as something they may consider.

Sadly hearsay has brought it to the point where people are adamant that it was stated that is definitely something everyone will have one chance to do.

Until I see the statement quoted with a link to the OP from Yoshi saying this, I am not going to believe it.

It's in the 2.0 preview. Because the new graphics engine may make our character look different than before in a way that we might not like, they're letting us recreate our characters when 2.0 hits.

Looked it up, specifically it's page 8 of the 2.0 outline, in the Rebuild: Graphics section.

Scroll down to the second slide that says Rebuild:Graphics Engine. It's written there, clear as day. The bottom of the slide says
The new graphics engine will cause certain objects to display differently than they do in the current version.
Because of this, we will allow all current players the opportunity to re-customize the race, gender, and
appearance of their characters upon the implementation of the new engine.

It's kind of why I rerolled as a Lalafell, didn't really like my Elezen from day one, and even though this was a possibility, I didn't want to progress too far on my first character, if the option is not confirmed.

I am only behind on my crafts now, which I am sure I can get up soon enough.

I think its silly to add new options like female Roe, male miqo'te and female highlander and not allow us to change gender and race.

We have a slight disadvantage for playing the game prior to 2.0 which is a load of crap as far as I'm concerned.

Sure you could say well start a new character in 2.0 but then all the time I have spent on this character has gone to waste.

There's context for this quote that's missing (and hasn't been translated yet, and my Japanese is definitely not good enough to try to translate it), which is basically, he's talking about stuff like barbershops and server transfers and other meta-gamey services that they might offer.

They have now /definitively/ stated that people who are currently playing will be able to re-customise their characters completely when 2.0 comes out, on account of the new races being added in and the new graphics engine - he just doesn't want race changes to be an available option -after- that fact, in the same way that hairstyle changes will be an available option whenever we feel like it.

Everyone gets their one time race change, at 2.0 launch. Start pondering.

Personally, I'd never be anything other than a lala, though I may switch to dunesfolk since i'm a primary caster. I can't stand the viewpoint of other races. I rolled all of them on my mule account to check them out. I couldn't stand it in xi, and i can't stand it in xiv.

My first race was hume in xiv 9 years ago. I started in bastok. I got to level 10, and happened to wander by the goldsmith guild in search of a place to sell my crap. I saw a taru synthing copper ingots, and fell in love with how they looked. I deleted my hume and created a taru on the spot, and never looked back. I am heavily disappointed that they are doing away with that type of synthing though, those little arm motions are what made endless hours of crafting bearable.
