    DOT/HOT THE DAMN GROUND

Tips for new and old players.

DOT/HOT anything narrow like ramps and paths.

Here's how it works, you only need to deter 1-2 people to create doubt. The inaction/reaction of those 1-2 people will create a chain of influenced behavior affecting the fluidity of movement.

Congrats! You just learned Herd Behavior, Crowd Psychology and Collective behavior.

    Achievement notice!
You now understand how to deter a push.

I think most classes keep their AOE ground skills off cooldown, if you're talking about shadow flare, it's more of a DPS loss to recast when the battle has started. Doton is situational.

My favourite thing to do is deploy a turret on the outskirts of whatever area we currently hold. Because it's just a turret, you can extend it out way further into areas a person wouldn't be able to safely occupy.

It forces people to dismount early or risk getting heavied, which greatly slows the momentum of whoever is attacking you. Of course, if you're smart, you'll realize the turret won't actually fire unless it's owner is in combat - but like has been said, you only need a couple of people to be intimidated for it to have done it's job.

They're great for area control (especially node defense) and intimidation in general, and all that from a stupid throwaway turret.

Shadowflaring ramps is the best. I've seen so many Ninjas have their Hide canceled because they think they can just walk through Shadowflare without any consequences. XD

That's weird, cus I give no fucks to Shadow Flare as NIN and can walk through it with hide just fine.

As long as the hit is not direct (e.g DoTs) it doesn't mess up hide. I've been bane'd and slept in hide before.

I've seen Ninjas get caught with their pants down a lot on that middle ramp node in the caves. They'll be at about the top edge (like they were trying to hug the edge of the ramp) and they got caught. I always assumed it was from walking through an AoE, as I notice them getting caught when we're all standing on the ramp and not doing anything, so it's not like anyone was doing any other AoEs like Assize (then again, I can't accurately say what all 24 people in my GC Alliances are up too). Perhaps the AoE was getting reapplied and the first hit from it being placed broke it? Or perhaps because they were layered, which did enough damage to cancel the Hide? I've seen it happen far more than once, though, for it to be a coincidence so I always assumed it was from the AoEs.

Grounded aoes are a weird type of DoT, as in they do a direct hit when they tick.

Where as normal DoT Ticks wont break sleeps/bind/hide, grounded aoes will break sleep/bind/hide.

Abilities such as Bane and Sleep have no direct hit, so they wont break a sleep/bind/hide.

Ground AOEs has never broke my hide. I've walked through Doton while hidden before too

I suppose it doesn't since it hasn't broken your stealth.
