That was not because the recipes, but because they overused the bells.

Every event (from Starlight 2010 to valentine 2011) was "ringing the bell"

The bell was an unrelated problem... the other craftable stuff AFTER that event were also... not taken with appreciation. Look at new years' Samurai hats that were craftable.
