    Request for a level “auto-cap” for instanced contents

    Hello, adventurers.

    I have another particular request for the dev team.

    One of the things I crave for the most in Eorzea is the challenge. So you can imagine how not fun and challenging would be for me if I had to battle Ifrit or Shaula (I still have to fight that spider) with level 50 players, while I'm level 33.

    I think it would be Great if existed a system that would “auto-cap” your level for contents like Toto-Rak or the Ifrit level 25 battle. That is, when entering Toto-Rak, you're automatically and temporarily brought back to level 30 or 35 max, even if your Class is level 50; or, even better, you've a choice and can decide, through a prompt dialogue box, if either entering with your normal levels or with the cap.

    Could such a feature be implemented?

    It may be fun to test your full level 50 strength against the level 25 Ifrit... I want to do that as well when I'll be level 50... once, twice... but then stop, as it's a content thought for level 25-30 adventurers. And more importantly, the very first time is a must for me that it has to be done with the right challenging levels (and possibly without looking at strategies before attempting).

    Unfortunately, according to what I read, most of the adventurers think about the challenge as a secondary goal: first, Seals (Ifrit) or Unique/Untradable equipments! But that's not my case.

    As I can't force other adventurers I don't know to participate with their level 25-35 Class, or in cases they just don't have classes of that level, particularly when partying with japanese players, where it would be hard to request: “Can we please do this battle with level 25-35 classes to have more challenge?”, I firmly believe an “auto-cap” would solve the issue.

    Yeah, I guess we'll have to have a level 30 equip ready, but as there's a lot of room in inventory, 8-9 more spaces wouldn't be a problem, in my opinion.


    I don't know if such a feature exists in other online worlds, but I hope its implementation might be taken into consideration.

    The only level caps I was okay with in XI were the BCNMs - they were quick and clean so if you planned on going you got your gear, got your orb, and got it done for profit and fun. Obligatory ones aren't as enjoyable; even the strategy and challenge behind it is shallow, imho. If it's forced on you, it's usually unplanned - meaning you actually have to put together sets of gear for that cap, learn what skills you still have access to... everything that was fun about planning BCNMs suddenly becomes a hassle for things you HAVE to do.

    They have stated previously they have this planned (ill have to look for a quote unless someone else provides?) but it was posted that all instanced content would have a cap (for example toto-rak would have a level 30 cap or some such) to keep all content a challenge rather than having rank 50's walk through lower level content to power up their secondary/tertiary classes.

    Yes, Jumpei, if you could provide a link to that statement, you'll have my thanks! Usually I read all of the community reps' and Yoshida's posts, and I don't remember them mentioning this feature, but I might have missed it or forgotten it...

    I've been really, really crossing my fingers for this and would love a link to an official dev response, also. I've been keeping my eyes out for this and didn't see anything.

    Ideally, it'd be an optional cap, that gets you more seals or crazy loot or whatever, but I think this is important for keeping content that's -not- at the game's level cap interesting and relevant. (Which given Yoshida's commentary lately about XIV being geared towards being played at the level cap, and that being the reason for speeding up XP so much, may not be as much of a priority? Still, I think it'd be a wonderful feature.)

    I'm all for the optional cap, as you suggested. As long as the players can decide then if fine with it. Another thought is that the players can scale the difficulty for those raids. 1 star normal, 5 star level 50 hard.
