OK so I picked up astro as my main and I love it. I know that astro are able to dable in time magic but would like to know what is there limit. Lore wise what are they capable of doing to alter time. What makes a astro not able to abuse.

I don't know about Astrologian Lore, but Brachiosaurus in Diadem certainly abuses Time Magic![]()
Lol true Lol what makes the astro not abuse time can a astro technically stay young for ever lol
I think it was mentioned that those who can potentially manipulate time are very rare; so time magic is not really inherent in all Astrologian and the only one known, thusfar, is the head of the Bibliothecs.
Common Time Magics: Slow, (no) Haste, Stop, possibly Demi and Quarter. I haven't done Astro or that diadem yet so apart from slow. What exactly qualifies as time magic using Astrologian and the Brachiosaur as an example for FFXIV's lore?
Astro uses celestial magic, not time magic, though the two are fairly similar. Celestial magic is more gravity based (demi etc.) than actual time magic (haste, slow, stop)
Celestial magic is that of space-time. It's one in the same. That's why they have certain spacial skills, like Gravity, and certain time skills, like Time Dilation.
Physics theory is a beautiful thing.
I'm still peeved that Celestial Opposition inflicts Stun, rather than Stop...
Stop would actually make for a fairly nice debuff that can work on stuff that's immune to Stun... If you Stun Eruption, Eruption doesn't go off. If you Stop Eruption? It still goes off, all you did was pause Ifrit mid-cast, so you just buy more time for people to react. Could even balance it further by rendering the enemy immune to damage for the duration, or working it like Bind (wears off when hit).
Kind of a shame we get so many forms of Stun, when it is an inherently overpowered skill that is simply moot on most serious content, when something like Stop can be balanced much more effectively.
I'd say DoTs can arguably be considered Time Magic, I mean they're time related. I always use Final Fantasy V for my basic Job reference, and sure enough Time Mage had Regen. Diurnal Sect then, I would consider Time Magic (increases own attack speed as well). Most of the Cards could arguably be called Time Magic as well; MP over time, TP over time, increased attack speed, reduced recast time. Demi and Banish certainly aren't ever going to occur in a MMO setting as they did in single player titles. Stuff like Lightspeed and Time Dilation don't really need explaining. All we're really missing is a form of Slow...

As stated above, AST manipulate fate by drawing on celestial Aether. This allows them to manipulate space, time and probability. However I don't think they can simply dictate those things.
Why doesn't it get abused? Two reasons I suspect. First it sounds like that it is very hard magic to manipulate and secondly it sounds like its very powerful magic to cast and as such the caster is limited in what they can do by the amount of Aether they can muster. Its the same reason a BLM can't level the twelveswood with a single spell. Sure it might be possible but in most cases it's far beyond the capacity of the casters without a great deal of preparation and setup.
The ability to stop time was considered a rumor among most ASTs.
Well, I was sort of joking about Brachiosaurus, but he does cast Meteor frequently and is able to slam everyone with debuffs such as Slow.
