SE plz revise your ideas about beastmaster and pets!

In a recent Yoshi-P interview he mentioned that pets will be like in FFXI, where you just tame it and use it, period.

I think this is a bad idea, even more considering that other mmos have long expanded on that system and have done it way better. Plz let the pets level up with your character, let them learn abilities and have ways to change/increase their stats or cross learn abilities from other pets etc..

It would be sad that they are just plain weapons where you cannot customize them at all. It will end up with one pet being the prime choice of all beastmasters and they will all use the same. Let us have diversity, choice and customization.

We can't simply go with a system that is inferior to the competition. We should be ahead of the curve and inovate on said systems!

Really, I thought that system was superior to other games I played. I liked finding areas with mobs that were weak against other mobs then using them to fight each other.

I didn't care for always having to level my pet, then if I changed to a new one I would have to level it again. Using the surrounding landscape and mob placement was more interesting to me.

Why always change pet to match the ones you fight? Even if you do level and customize your pet, some abilities and skills could be carried over to new pets.

You had to understand what mobs worked well against other mobs in the game. It gave the bestiary lots of attention compared to always fighting crabs. I would use bats against slimes or pugs against skeletons and so forth. It just added more of a dynamic aspect to the game.

Naming and growing your pet can be fun, so that is what I think they are aiming for with chocobos and the ability for them to fight with you.

I know chocobo will be exactly what i proposed but i think that since beastmaster have the ability to tame any pet, it would be better if they could do the same we do with chocobos but with different monsters and deeper.

He only believes it's a bad idea because it pertains to FFXI.

Avatars, Automata and Wyverns leveled with your character as well as gained new abilities, so taking the system from XI on a base level is already what you're asking for. The reason it's "inferior" is because other MMOs are focused on Pets (especially Rappelz), FFXI and XIV aren't pet focused games.

WOW does it with the hunter class, you have a talent tree for pets only and as far as i know WOW is not focused on pets with only 1 pet class.. 2 if you count warlocks.

FFXI with beastmaster, summoner and dragoons are more pets focused so i don't get your logic.

And as per your i think it's a bad idea cuz its FFXI, your are known around here for having a FFXI fetish so im just gonna ignore that.

Yeah, you clearly don't understand what pet focused game mean. A pet focused game means pets are an integral part of how the game plays, just because there's 1 or 80 jobs with pets doesn't mean anything if the pets themselves are insignificant, e.g they only help you store items or retrieve items. Some MMOs the pets are the bread and butter of gameplay, as in they eventually become your mounts or become stronger than you (allowing full solo play for example.)

Dragoon, Puppetmaster and Summoner, while good classes, aren't integral to XI's gameplay. Also, a lot of topics you made it very clear you didn't want XIV to resemble XI in any way for various reasons..why else would you consider something you're asking for that XI has done a bad idea?

Honestly I prefered Bst in XI over hunter in WoW and the Rift counterparts.

It allowed you to take advantage of the local mobs and such.

I still say Xi's bst is far superior to almost all its competitors pet tamer classes. Especially after SE let us choose which abilities we made the pets use.

There is nothing to suggest that taming would be like in 11, you tame beasts in WoW before you level them up.
