    Inventory woes

Had a hard time with my inventory recently.

I needed to swap out an item I had equipped with one that was in my bag. The game would not allow me to drag the equipped item over the new item and simply swap places.

So I gave in, threw away something to make an empty slot in my bag. I dragged the equipped item to that slot, but it would not settle into the slot. I tried multiple times, varying just a bit with how I lined up the icon with the empty slot, and it refused to settle into that slot.

What I had to do was remove an item from my full armory, put that item into the empty bag slot, and then move the equipped piece to the armory. THEN I was able to equip the new piece.

This process is absolutely ridiculous. I know my full inventory is something that needs to be managed, but c'mon, this is a fairly new game. The UI should allow for two items to simply swap places if you drag one on top of the other. Other older games allow for it, this game should as well.

TL;DR - Inventory UI needs to be smarter

If that's your only inventory problem consider yourself lucky -_-

    But yes, I do agree

Everything you want to do works just fine as long as there is free space in your armory. If your inventory is full or not does not matter.
When you equip a new gear piece, the old one gets dropped into the armory by default, not into the inventory.

You didn't need to move the equipped piece to the armory. Having a free space in the armory for the previously equipped gear to drop into is all you need. You can equip the new one from your inventory right away without going through the trouble of removing the previously equipped one first.
Also, simply swapping 2 gear pieces without additional free item slots works just fine too, as long as you are operating in the armory.

The problem you have is simply because you handle gear in the inventory, where it isn't supposed to go in the first place. Gear belongs into the armory, that's why the UI works just fine for that but is a bit more complicated when you want to use the inventory instead.

And seriously, if both your inventory AND armory are full, do some cleaning...xD

But sometimes there isn't, and my item bag should be a fallback. If armory is full, the game should check the item bag for space, and if there is space, that unequipped piece should fall into the open spot in the bag.

If there is no room anywhere, the player should still be able to drag a ring from the inventory over the equipped ring and the two should simply trade places.

The game should also allow the player to drag an equipped piece to an empty bag slot and the item should unequip and settle into that empty slot (excluding weapons).

So far as I can tell, the game will not allow for such things and that brings us to the purpose of my post.

To be blunt, SE did a lot of wrong things with the item bag. Sure, it can hold 100 items (Which is a lot more compared to other MMO RPGs....at first), but it can't be expanded because of how they set it up, as well as a lot of different item drag/drop things like in other games, as well as single player RPGs

Again, it does, as long as you are using the armory, where gear should be handeled.
You have 175 slots per retainer in storage, 12 x 25 slots for armor and weapons and 100 inventory slots. That's more than most MMOs. I don't see why the game should accomodate you not managing even a LITTLE bit with THAT much space to go with.

What actually annoys me a lot more about the inventory is that a nearly full one means you can't even do any trading or getting rewards from quests, retainer ventures and the like.
If I still have free space left I should be allowed to do these things.

Let me take you back to this part of my first post, then.

Those games do not have an armory system that is literally the place your gear SHOULD be at. They have an inventory (sometimes in form of several bags) that is shared for everything.
The things you are requesting are already working in the game, it's just that they apply to the system that is actually MEANT for gear.
What you want works just fine in the inventory with non-gear items and just fine with gear in the armory. You can't compare a system that is NOT meant for a certain type of item with a system that is specifically made to accomodate all item types.

Additionally, those older games usually had a lot less storage space, so finding ways to deal with a full inventory was super necessary while in FFXIV, that isn't the case.

It's not like I'm against your idea, I just don't see the need for it and consider it a waste of resources in comparison to other QoL fixes, since the system that is meant for the kinds of things you want to do is working as intended.
Learn to use it instead of insisting on using a secondary system for something you should be using the primary system for.
